Great car. I have an S3 and I wonder why the DSG shifter and sport aka drive select physical buttons have disappeared these days in place of a switch and a touchscreen. Doesn’t seem to make much sense, especially when it takes your attention from the road. B&O would be nice in this btw. Hopefully VAG start to move back to physical buttons (as they have on Audis with the climate control) and add sport modes to physical buttons in the lower half of the steering wheel (like they have on the TTRS for example) along with stop/start.
What's been done to the front headlight corners? It looks like they've changed it a bit so that the part that extends past the top corner of the light is darker, definitely looks better less noticeable. Hope they get rid of that (and the terrible all touch infotainment/climate system) in the midcycle refresh.

Why get a Mk 8? I upped my power to 330hp 247kw 420nm on my 7.5.
Besides…. The 7.5 looks better too.

Sounds like the Golf R has a gas problem! It's making farting noises! LOL
V.W. interior design is way below usual standards with this latest version of the Golf R. People do not want capacitive touch buttons and as a whole operating a screen whilst driving is more dangerous than using standard buttons where the driver knows instinctively where they are rather than having to fiddle with a screen.
Car ordered. I didnt opt for the Harmann Kardon audio. Is it a considerable upgrade over the standard vw audio? Thx for advice!

Golf 8 is really cool
In Canada we are getting only the Performance Pack so it’s $51K CDN for the DSG version (€34K). It’s a no-brainer at that price point for a daily driver with this much potential
I know you’ve done reviews on the Golf R and the BMW M235i… was one clearly better than the other? Any notable build quality and driving differences?

Over rough pavement, what which one is more comfortable between the Golf R Mk8 with DCC in Comfort mode and a Mercedes CLA250 WITHOUT adaptive damper?

Pretty expensive. They should offer another comfort pack that provides headrest pillows and soft covers for the plastics near where the leg rests. That way it'll be up to the client if they need it or not.

Great car ruined by downgrade to touchscreen infotainment system, and glitchy software. No gas struts on bonnet, and no heated seats as standard. Cost cutting will cost them sales. I'm keeping my Mk7.5 until they resolve these issues.
Would you advise the leather seats? I've heard so many good things about the standard seats and its a pricey upgrade!
Great review. I’m wondering whether you can buy the car without that subwoofer in the lower trunk. I fill that area in my Version 7 R with tools and other gear. Don’t think I can give that space up for an upgraded sound system. I also don’t like the new touch controls. Might stick with my 2016
Car performance seems great! The Interior and infotainment system… fail I think. It feels it'll really annoy you especially if it's lagging. The seats look nice… leather tends to look bad once it's worn in. Lack of physical buttons and the steering wheel capacitive buttons seem like a let down… the question is, is it worth waiting for this to arrive to see for myself or go for the mk7.5? what are peoples thoughts?
Press car and the leather is already deformed, after 15.000km it will be destroyed
I'm waiting for the review that shows how 4 wheels / tires, a jack, cooler, chair, small suitcase, and helmet bag fit in the back.

It is sad a Golf 8 R….. Against my GTI MK5 with 265000km and 280hp with 425Nm ethanol e85, it is a shame Volkswagen that takes us for heartless…
I’m in New Zealand. The Golf R available here, you would be better to get a Mercedes A250 for your $$. Nothing in the cost, but far superior in the technology.

VW ….keep that … not for me … all digital … i don`t want an Ipad on wheels … no 2 doors …very sporty rofl ….fake sound …. and the list goes on … but hey … as long my chiped MK7R is running fine. good luck.

Hahaha, "greetings to the guys from Akrapovic"! I was laughing out loud!! Sounds like a huge amount of fun. And all that from just 2 litres? Speaking with the experience of a VW owner since 1995, I expect this car to be falling apart around the 100,000 Km figure!
