You ever wonder what it is about anime that gets so many guys DEEP into it? Me too. So I talked to some experts in the topic in @supereyepatchwolf3007 and @mothersbasement and looked back at my own experiences as an Anime fan to figure out what it is about Anime that resonates so much with boys and men.

  1. Aaron Stacey says:

"he had no choice" literally shaped the future

  2. thank you. it took me a while to get time to watch this but it was worth it.
it took me this video to realize why I gave up on attack on titan and got so annoyed with the end when I heard of it. thanks.

  3. Amor Fati says:

"he goes to unlisted filthy frank videos and comments about missing 'the old days'" holy shit, that cuts DEEP

  4. I just wanna say that intro was hot

  5. Japan has a communist party? Men wtf in my country the communist party made a guerrilla and took half of the rural country, then they started trafficking drugs and the ideology got lost in the “war actions”

  6. I think that another potential takeaway from Berserk is that Griffith, the ultimate manga/anime villain that everyone hates with a burning passion, is the same type of character as Eren Yeager. Griffith goes through unimaginable pain and trauma and chooses the wrong option. In fact, ALL of the God Hand did. Void was mistreated horribly when he was still alive at the hands of an immensely powerful figure, and when given the opportunity for power, creates a massacre so large that an entire kingdom is destroyed. Guts represents the sort of character that by all means could become someone like Griffith or Eren, and by anime standards, would be "justified" in doing so, but instead makes the choice to become a better person in the process. Contrary to the "no other choice" narrative, Guts shows us that there is ALWAYS another choice, but that you need to be emotionally strong enough and have the actual desire to get better in order to make that choice.

  7. Im a Latin American upper middle class leftist. I really love watching your videos drunk and feeling like shit realising my third world upper middle class struggle is quite … best(?)( i don’t know i speak Spanish) than the lower classes in a “first world” country. Also i love Full Metal Alchemist. What i was saying? Japan as a left wing shiiieeeet what i liked the last air bender

  8. Okay idk how long the 'virgin eren' thumbnail has been on, but omg XD

  9. A great opportunity was missed to discuss the phenomenon of Vinland Saga and the mantra of "I have no enemies." While Guts is great, Thorfinn would have served as an even greater antithesis to Eren.

  10. Casper Night says:

This is an extremely mean spirited video with extremely bad takes spread throughout the entire video from the moment you mention SAO

  11. sneakyskunk1 says:

That was not a roast. That was an orbital strike. Scratch that, that was a colony drop. Ouch!

  12. Alternate title: We desperately need a good Berserk anime adaptation.

  13. anjetto1 says:

Before i watch this. Im gonna assume that the problem is gonna be that anime is made by rightwing incels for rightwing incels.

Edit: i was wrong. It went a different way

  14. PHONIK says:

One bad take after another smh.

  15. So… I love the character of Eren, but I do think he falls into the Rick Sanchez/Walter White category of characters that is misguidedly admired by all those that really, REALLY did not understand the point of their story.
I agree that the point of "he didn't have any choice" is not a real argument in a regular story, because it's not an argument in real life. Human beings are rarely put into a corner with binary or unitary choices for any given situation. HOWEVER… this is a story with time travel (sort of) involved. The inevitability of the future/the inescapability of fate IS a theme here.
Eren is a tragic figure. He's the sum of the circumstances he was born into + events that were preordained before he was even born. I've always interpreted the "This is Freedom" scene as he, for once, being free from the burden of fighting against what he had seen in his visions. It's not like the scouts didn't try the diplomatic route, but it wasn't happening. The arms race between Paradis and the rest of the world got the opposite effect of the Cold War when the wall fell. He did what any radicalized person with power would've done: an overly simplistic (though effective, I suppose) and extreme solution that would match the pain he's felt his entire life. Cruelty is born out of powerlessness.
I don't think it's fair to criticize a character based off the dumb interpretations of the fanbase they develop. One of the great things about AoT is that it presents a near impossible conflict between the main two factions (Paradis vs rest of the world).

I don't think eren is supposed to be a role model.
He has been depicted in an uncanny light from season 1, we just didn't notice because anime clichees. Something has always been wrong with him and unlike guts, he doesn't get better. He's kinda like gon from hxh.

  17. stop changing the title. i liked anime is good, actually.

  18. I want to recommend for a more positive example of strength in anime Jujutsu Kaisen. Particularly Gojo and Yuta. Starting with Yuta (Spoiler free) we have a weak highschool kid who struggles with self worth and understanding his place in the world. He learns by watching people fail to protect him that he needs to find his own strength so he can in turn protect them. Yuta in a nut shell is a man who desperately wants to be a shield, but does so by being a powerful sword. He defends those he loves, by striking down those who would cause them harm. He very quickly turns from a weak, reactionary character. To a strong active character. Going from someone who needs protecting, to someone with both the desire and the ability to protect those he cares about. Moving on to Gojo, also no spoilers here, he is a man who was born with exceptional power and ability. We see him most notably as a teenager, and then later as an adult and therefore have the luxury of comparing the two. As a teenager Gojo is living in his strength, being powerful is what matters most to him and showing off that power is something he takes great joy in. He has little care for establishment or rules and feels that as the strongest he should be able to do whatever he wants whenever he wants to. Without getting into spoilers Gojo is shown very definitively that being all powerful does not mean always getting what you want. In that same incident he does surpass his current limitations and becomes somehow even more powerful. However it doesn't change what has already happened, and gaining more power does not solve a problem for him. In a fun turn of expectations we actually see that once he gains this new level of power he has MORE problems that he can't even see at first. Blinded by his own growth he doesnt see how it negatively effects those around him and he fails to see his best friend sinking into depression. Cutting forward to Gojo as an adult, having come a long way from those teenaged years of struggle. We see a man who lives to effect change in a meaningful and lasting way. He knows he is strong enough to kill anyone and everyone who would ever oppose him, but now he is wise enough to know that doesn't matter. He is now working within a system that he despises so that he can more effectively change how that system functions. He is both the anchor and the waves now. Keeping society stable, while trying desperately to change it without sinking it. Using his power to raise up the next generation around him, but daring them to become stronger and more capable than him because he now has an understanding that now matter how strong he is he cannot do everything alone.

I understand why you would recommend Berserk, its fucking amazing. However you really should have put some major warnings for potentials viewers. Warnings for Berserk : Sexual Violence, Abuse to children, Rampant Nudity and Gore. I cant stress enough that there is A LOT of abuse towards women in this show, and on more than one occasion children are abused and killed. If that is an absolute deal breaker for you than you should avoid the series. If you read that and think it cannot be that bad, I assure you it is somehow even worse than you can imagine. The writer puts Guts through hell. He doesn't pull any punches and any time you think things cannot get worse, rest assured that they absolutely can.

  20. To me, Eren became the villain and I ended up disapproving his actions, but I consider AOT a great achievement in story telling for this very reason. I don't think that the story or presentation justified Eren, the message of the absurdity of war and its horror was cristal clear to me…I don't need every story to be obviously moralizing. There are many charismatic dictators and terrorists that are very succesfull and capable in real life, doesn't mean they are morally justified or you should follow them.
+1000 to the Isekai thing, I find it very stupid

  21. Sarara14 says:

How does healing and personal growth affect systems of oppression? It's one thing to talk about growth, healing, and moving on from trauma when there aren't other people actively working to inflict trauma on you through oppression, imprisonment, or extermination.

Could Eren or any of the other Eldians talk no jutsued their way out of being exterminated by Marley and its allies after enough therapy? Eren following up Marley playing the genocide card with an uno reverse may not have been ideal, but it seems like it was effective
