Some really great info. I’m making some real progress with this concept. My main swing focus is to start my downswing (weight shift/bump/heel stamp) whatever your feel is. As my arms reach around chest height in the backswing. This means my arms are still travelling up as I’m starting back down and towards target. This creates that separation/lag we all get told we need to achieve. Much better compression for me but as with everything it takes time to develop. Especially if you haven’t being doing it correctly.
Yes!I would like to see you and Shawn!!!
If you notice…even Brandon struggles to really do the hip high to hip high drill. He over-swings. Controlling your pivot on small shots is difficult because your hands and arms want to take over. It’s not easy
I followed you for years but missed the original video on the step method; can you send me the title, thanks
This is great for someone who only does a shoulder turn in transition, but I think those who already have active legs and a full release won't benefit.
Brendon what do you think about shift and turn vs stack and tilt pressure front foot. Which is easier for consistent impact.
The effort back being with more energy goes along with the Tour Tempo program that backswing to downswing timing is a 3:1 ratio.
Thx for your research Brendon. I will try that Drills and Protocol and See if it works for me. My contact with irons are a nightmare right now. BTW: I like to get a Launch deck in germany but they only sell it online Into the States and shipping to Europe is way to expensive. Any suggestion on european Sellers or similiar products available over here? Thx
Essentially what this "half-swing" hip-to-hip drill improves (1) Kinematic Sequence, which helps the golfer to time the club head-to-ball for better ball striking, shaft lean and more compression (2) initiating the downswing sequence from the hips instead of the shoulder (ie. over-the-top) or arms (ie. no power) and thus generate more power with more GRF. Swing speed is oftentimes the same if not even faster if the drill is executed corrected due mainly to better Kinematic sequencing and ball speed higher due to better compression.
Reminds me of your videos with John Erickson and Monte. John- short backswing and hit it hard. Monte- snatch the club back and throw it through impact. I’ve had such consistent ball striking with this intent but somehow over time I just lose it smh. Just hit some 70yd shots outside at home and they were so pure.
I haven’t done your exact protocol but I have been using a practice regime very similar and my ball striking has improved tons. The biggest benefit of the small swings to me is learning how to apply force at the first 1/4 of backswing. It reminds me of Drew Cooper when he said at P2, his backswing is done. You describe it very good in this video.
Is it just me that wants to see him talk to Shawn Clement seems like alot of similarity to his teachings and he has talked to so many other major teachers.
Superb video. Cheers, B.
Are you doing anything to get back on the functional swing plane in the down swing or is it automatic with this feel?
Due to my lack of flexibility, my full swing is the Jon Rahm drill,lol…9oclock is about as far back as i can go.
The protocol video didn’t seem complete? You never finished showing us because the camera died..
I did start your program but unfortunately work and family commitments got in the way ….. I’m back on it from tomorrow 💪
I don’t doubt this is a great drill bit the success of those 3 golfers would be much more relevant if I had some idea of their handicaps??
Love all the Swing Experts in the comment section…
😂😂😂😂
Looks good. I would turn the controlled half finish into a more relaxed release myself. In my experience, practicing a half finish can ingrain the bad habit of not finishing your swing and turning all the way through and it doesn't necessarily add more power if your rotation is relaxed. I also wouldn't hit partial wedges that way myself so maybe that's just my preference but that kind of cut off swing doesn't give me much feel for distance. I like the backswing heave force as the distance control idea as well.
Unfortunately there is no understanding of acceleration required to execute these nonsensical drills. This short swing drill will do nothing but get one to flip the club more aggressively. If you ever really learned how to actually swing the club head then you would understand what ridiculous nonsense this video depicts.
Your are not wasting any motion connection must feel awhasm
Been with you since day one. Haven’t seen all your vids since you introduced me to the Mike Austin method.
It’s been 6 years since overhauling my swing and my 7 hc hasn’t dropped back to a 5 but thanks to you, Brendon, at age 67 I was hitting 280 carries, up from a dwindling 220 at age 63. (At 50, I was still carrying 260.)
Tony, Monte, Mike M and others were truly eye opening and today at 70, I’m a much, much better golfer because of you.
I’m still carrying 240 while my evenly matched buddies at 50 years are now struggling to carry 200.
Thanks again.
But my journey is over. It took me 5 years to ingrain the Austin method. I don’t have the time to keep trying new things and am extreme happy with what I have.
If only my eyes could read greens again.
love it. thanks
Hands down my favorite drill: The Rahm Drill but from P6. This has helped transform my golf swing by baking in some vital mechanics almost automatically.
Seriously, want your cake and eat it too? This gets verbose but stay with me….
Set up at P6 and start with these key ingredients:
1. Slightly flared and loaded lead foot
2. Hips parallel to ball line
3. Extended trail wrist/ flat lead wrist gripping the club
4. Hands directly under the sternum, with a soft trail elbow in front of the trail thigh and hip, ( shoulders will be CLOSED slightly, with hands down and out in front of the chest)
5. Check the club face:
Slightly behind the hands? angled down at 10 or 11 O'clock?
Time to turn it up.
Now, before you swing through from here, use about a slight rotation away from the target first to push off the trail foot. No surprise you will HAVE to immediately push hard into the ground with your lead foot to get that hip back behind you. You might even jump. That's so good cooking.
At the same time, you will HAVE to pull the club up and around you through the ball, with shaft lean, while throwing with your trail hand … as you learn quickly how to unhinge those sweet baked-in wrist angles at the optimal time. More. Good. Cooking.
(Important: DO NOT roll your hands over, if you want straight shots or draws and not smother hooks.Get a feel for keeping the club face perpendicular to your swing arc for as long as possible. Shot shaping at will gets easier from there.👍🏿)
P6 and beyond is not everything, but it's the only thing that really matters.
Change my mind. 😁⛳
Amother great video, i think you are onto something with these drills. How do you think the method is of bringing the club from the top of the full backswing the waste height positon the club is in, in these sawn off backswing drills. Do you use the body or feel like its a drop of the arms? Great channel.
You need to interview Shawn Clement from Wisdom of Golf
I found out that for the shaft lean and a late hit you need a right side bend through the impact area. Upper body has to keep rotating through impact and I could do that first only by looking at target and not the ball. I dont think you can achieve that as an adult golfer whithout a proper idea.
But you're throwing the club to get it squared up in time to deal with the shorter backswing. It's not necessarily a bad thing but seems to get missed in the summary.
To eliminate my handle drag I almost have to feel like my arms are slowing down when they get to my trail leg so I’ll get release and re-hinge past impact
