On April 28 Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson vowed to spend the rest of their lives together.
“I’ve never seen the light in her eyes shine as bright as that day,” said Mandi Jenkins, Samantha’s sister. “It was the best day of her life.” “They announced a surprise dance for the most important person in Sam’s life, which was me and we danced to Bruno Mars just the way you are,” said Lisa Miller, Samantha’s mother. “That’s our song.”
The happy couple left the reception under a canopy of sparklers
“On the beginning of the golf cart ride, she said, ‘I wish this night could go on forever,” her mother said.
Samantha and Aric were two blocks away from their home when their low speed vehicle was hit.
“I got in our pajamas sitting on the balcony beside birds at our place where we were staying and started to hear the sirens and the sirens kept going,” Jenkins said.
They texted Samantha but got no response.
“And we just got out of the truck and just started running no shoes screaming, Sam, Sam!” Miller said.
A real life nightmare
According to Folly Beach Public Safety, 25-year-old Jamie Lee Komorowski hit the newlyweds.
She’s charged with three counts of felony DUI resulting in great bodily harm or death and one count of reckless homicide.
“She literally ran into my daughter going 65 miles an hour because Sam and Aric were on the back of the golf cart,” Miller said. “And so she basically just rammed my child.”
The groom’s mom’s GoFundMe page said the golf cart went more than 100 yards and rolled several times.
“And I never thought it would happen to us to my beautiful sister and her beautiful daughter and all the 150 people that were there,” Jenkins said.
Now, the family wants to bring awareness to driving under the influence.
“But that person made a careless mistake,” Jenkins said. “And it’s not a mistake; it is a life changing event.”
While the bride did not make it, the groom, Aric Hutchinson, did.
“Aric has a very long, long physical journey and a longer emotional journey,” Jenkins said.
Miller’s family said Hutchinson already had surgery and has more to come.
“They couldn’t be more perfect for each other,” her sister said.
“I mean, I’ve never met a man like Aric, never,” her mom said.
The family is comforted knowing Samantha’s last moments were her happiest.
“She was unbelievably special, and now she’s not here,” Jenkins said.
