Chipping can be very simple. But we have to make sure we don’t follow a few misconceptions that can lock you up, make you guide the ball, and heaven forbid, get the yips. I go over 3 simple ways to make chipping easy.

I look forward to working with you much more in the future with Top Speed Golf. Good luck with your golf.

I have a 65 and just brought a 52' from Lazarus which is best for the chip shot?

Hi Clay, I have been looking at your chipping and pitching videos which have help me in my shots around the greens. Your instructions is easy to understand which make the game easier.

  3. Coach Clay , I am a terrible chipper. My handicap was a good 8 and due to my short game it’s now double that. I have all the yips mentioned by you. Most of all everyone tell me I decelerate on the backswing and as a result duff a simple chip shot. Is there any cure or a drill to stop this . Ty so much.

Hi Clay: I have been playing inconstantly – especially my chipping for years. During the Lockdown I have worked the hardest on my game ever and have watched loads of videos! I must say your videos are the best on YouTube without a doubt and have helped me so much! SO THANK YOU!!! The TWO most important things I have noticed about my chipping and pitching are to keep my sternum and hands slightly ahead of the ball – Would you agree with that? I suppose it depends on lots of other details to be fair but those two key thoughts are definitely working at the moment, so thanks!!

  7. Great video, very helpful, especially for those like me who sometimes struggle with chunking in chip shots! Thank you very much!

  8. Pretty new to golf and definitely have the yips when it comes to chipping. What club choice do you prefer to use? I have been told anything from a sand wedge, pitching, gap and 9?

Took the chipping lesson to the practice green and wow, thanks great video. I have been telling my golf buddies to tune into your lessons, thanks Clay.

  10. Your comment about eye position seems so obvious. I have a long history of poor chipping and yipping chips (weird because I'm a reasonably good putter). I have thought that it was mainly head-bobbing and had been really trying to focus on keeping my head still. I watched this video about a month ago and have been working on not letting my eyes get ahead of the club – I'm not where I want to be but have seen a major improvement.
If you're a chip-yipper, and I know a few, my observation is that the shorter the chip the higher the yip-likelihood. The slower the swing the easier it is to let your eyes get ahead of the club … yip-city.
Get observation, I'll keep working on it.
    Thanks

Clay- Hoping you can help me. I have Callaway Rogue irons 4-PW, and Cleveland CBX 52 and 56 degree wedges. I need a club between the 44 degree Rogue PW and the 52 degree CBX wedge. Should I go with the Rogue Gap wedge (49 degrees) to match my iron set, or match the other two Cleveland wedges with a 48 degree Cleveland wedge?

I got to work on this last night, after work. My chipping has always been inconsistent. now I know why! Was taught to keep legs stiff. I am gonna need more work with it, but you cut 2 to 3 strokes off my score with one lesson!! Only 14 putts on 9 holes last night, because i was chipping everything within 10 feet of the hole. Thank you very much!

Clay. i watched a phil video (lefty) and he says to go high go front foot, to go low go back foot. with both positions you should put your hands forward by your front thigh….. is this proper? or is it more for a low handicap golfer?
