A lot of people said that Jack was a poor chipper. Fact is, he had a great short game and Phil Rodgers taught him the heel up putt-style chip.
Use it all the time with my preferred 8 iron up to a 8 yard carry (any farther, the arm motion gets too exaggerated.) I’ll hole out more with this method than putting on the green from the same distance.
Feels less anxious chipping to a spot than judging line and speed for a putt. Maybe I make more because from 40 feet I’m chipping to a pie pan 20 feet away rather than a trash can cover 40 feet away.
