  1. Thanks for doing this! Sorry I missed you live.

I have a question: Is it mandatory for people who have been found guilty of murder to be present for impact statements?
We recently had a case in the UK involving the murder of a child. The defendant was found guilty but refused to come up from his cell for sentencing and they couldn't legally make him. Its sparked a nationwide campaign to get the law changed, but I was wondering if it's mandatory in the US? Or does it vary by jurisdiction?

    Thank you 😊

I believe when LS and Al got their divorce it may have been able to request Leticia to drop his last name then. But I am sure he was not thinking about that at that time. I hope there is a way to make this occur for Al. This case truly gutted me.

    Nice new intro😊

  4. NKogNeeTow says:

I'm against the death penalty but not for moral reasons either. It's already been proven we've killed innocent people and almost some others. I feel like that should be enough for anyone to be against it. Knowing we have executed even one innocent person should be enough but for some, it isn't.

  5. Thank you Kurt. I know this was a hard one to do 😢

  6. I heard (streaming audio only while on the road) the testimonies from the family members. It was brutal, so I'm not going to listen to it here again. I think it got to the judge too. Anything she gets will never be enough. Life without parole was probably the worst thing he could give her, though may of us would like to see her as bait during shark week.

  7. Thanks for this, and also a big thanks to "MLS Law Show" youtube channel for streaming the whole trial. It was pretty interesting AND disguisting.

I love this new introoo!!! Keep it going

  9. Debbie Blair says:

    In a gated community!

  10. Debbie Blair says:

I think she hated Gannon and was getting back at Al and probably Landon.

  11. What the judge said was awesome!

  12. Lisa Burris says:

    Thank you Kurt.

  13. I am so happy this woman will never get out of prison.

As someone from a country where life in prison is almost never sentenced, it is important to mention that people who are sentenced to 25 years are unlikely to actually be free to go after 25 years.

With crimes like this one, there will always be an added mandatory mental health treatment to the verdict. Which means these people will be in a mental health facility after their time in prison until the psychiatrists/specialists decide they are mentally fit enough to try to reintegrate into society. Which means indefinitely for people like this.

Only the very worst criminals, like dangerous crime bosses who terrorize the country, or serial killers, etc. are given an actual life sentence. I believe we have 53 ppl serving life atm in a population of about 18 million people. They are people who commit the very worst crimes where there is no chance of the criminal’s rehabilitation. As long as there is a small chance the criminal can be rehabilitated, the treatment verdict is added to however many punitive years.

I’m grateful for the verdict. Beyond that, the judges sentencing remarks hit a lot of the issues I had with the defense strategy. Imo, GTFO! Fr! It didn’t track for me. I broke down during statements (I’m an emotional wiener and I can’t fix it- I’ve tried, hard). It looked like the defense attorney lost it too (a lil) when Al broke down. Rightfully so. I agree with the judges sentence & comments 100%!

  15. Glad I listened with you on this. Your compassion and heart shine through. Lifts my heart. Helps me see the glass half full and the dignity of humanity.

  16. Amanda Paige says:

Sorry i missed the live. I didn't think you were covering this case and i didn't get notification. Looking forward to your commentary on thy verdict and sentencing stuff. Letecia got what she deserved! RIP GANNON 💙💙💙

  17. Jennifer says:

The judges words were perfect. I appreciate that he defended those that she manipulated and that he included how she insulted those with true mental illnesses. This is one of the more eloquent sentencing speeches I’ve heard. Such a tragedy and I pray that the family can begin to heal.

  18. Thank you for your coverage.

  19. SoCalReneGal says:

The father was and is simply military and away often for work. He and Leticia were married with a blended family they both had custody of Gannon. The count they threw out was for her assaulting the police during the transport from Florida to Colorado.

  20. Her calls to Fake Polygraph were heard in court. They turned her down because she included criminal elements in her questions.

  21. HCB says:

    💙 + 🧡for your coverage and sensitivity

  22. I liked his speech. I wish I could see his face.

  23. The defense expert witness present a movie version of multiple personalities.

  24. In addition to your pragmatic reasons against the death penalty, mine is more prosaic: I can't trust the system. It's run by human beings and is therefore inevitably flawed and inevitably political. The only way it cannot be would be if it can't be done at all. Taking Richard Allen Davis — there's no question that he was guilty. But as long as it's possible to execute him, the power will absolutely be subject to abuse. I can't abide the possibility of that abuse.

  25. Late watching but this was so so sad, thank you for your respectful input.

  26. C Ty says:

thank you Kurt–I am traveling but caught the replay in my hotel

  27. My first thought when you said the kid's name, Gannon, was that she was a Zelda fan and had to kill Gannon to complete the game. Either way – GAME OVER MA'AM!

  28. Sea Turtle says:

I am biased, but the death penalty is about guarantees. If they are dead, they have 0% chance of hurting anyone else…if they are breathing, there are other inmates guards or escape. 0 is better.
My brother was murdered in 1994 and until his killer died in prison of cancer this year, I was terrified that he would get out and hurt another family. My brother Michael was the victim, but so were all of us who lost him.

  29. The pending charge was from when she conspired w/other inmates to escape. She had her attorneys ask for her preferred prison placement which of course the judge has no control over.

  30. Jules says:

    Florida provides counselling for jurors.

  31. Guilty life in prison! Just where she belongs!
