MacGregor Tourney MT "Wingback" irons. #golf

With the recent release by MacGregor of the MT-86 irons, now would be an excellent time to look at the clubs that inspired them. Originally introduced in 1950, the MT wingback is one of my favourite MacGregor designs.

One of my favorite channels on YouTube. To me, your content needs the longer format, which I prefer.

Very Good and informative video as a MAC fan. I play the 59' CF PT2's regularly and love the feel.

Glad to see you back out. The weather will be improving soon hopefully. The shorts are good. But like the full length ones best. Glad to see you found some Macs. I have the '83-'84 M85s as well. I think the only copper is in the face. The 1955-57 Colokroms were nickel plated the the entire iron was copper plated and then chrome plated. I have the 1955 M75 with the V shaft( medium then now stiff) and the 1956 M85 withe the R shafts (read real stiff). Where the chrome has worn off it shows the copper on the entire iron. When you have them side by side the M85 is a little shorter and thicker than the M75. They also had a M65 (senior) and M55 (ladies). The original leather grips are very enjoyable to play for me. They actually get stickier with a little dampness. I wish I could find those catalog pages that you displayed. Mac count now is '54 M75, '55 M75, '56 M85, '58 PT (copper). 1960 FC 4000, 1962 FC 4000 (got my first hole in one after playing since 1972 with), '83-'84 M85. Thanks again.

  5. Good video. I’ve never owned a set of MacGregors but this video has whetted my appetite to find a set. I do like your short videos. I’ve watched them all. You do seem to let your humorous side out a little more in the shorts. Keep up the good work.

  6. Beautiful example of MacGregor Wingbacks, re-issues are a nod to the originals. Would be nice to compare feel to an original set. I have watched your shorts and they are a nice preview of things to come or as a quick presentation of an obscure club. Thanks Nick.

Thanks. I always learn something from your videos. I especially enjoyed your video on John Letters clubs, which Peter Thomson preferred to MacGregor. JL clubs are very difficult to find in the U.S. Keep 'em coming.

Always enjoy the content of the videos .lovely set of clubs and you played decently and managed the shots you needed .

Enjoy all your video's, the "shorts" in that elongated format are different w/controls on the side & took some getting use to (especially to write/read comments)…that said, I enjoy the "shorts", in the same form as your longer videos….hope you decide to keep the shorts. Enjoy the history you give to the clubs you play…
I've a set of the copper faced clubs (PT1) that was made between the Colorkrom & the FC4000…not a wingback, and a set of Louise Suggs FC4000.
Totally agree with you about the new MacGregor irons….
I admire your actual play & keeping true, no editing out of the "oops" shots…Keep up the excellent work you've been doing

I thoroughly enjoy all your video's no matter what format they are in . I do prefer your longer video's of course but i suspect its whatever you have time for and of course , the weather!. Sadly, the more i watch , the more i want and the garage is filling up with old clubs . I did last week get a full set of Aussie blades DP-30's with a set of Dyna craft for £10! from a local charity shop . It had a Johnny Revolta Sand iron which i thought was a joke on John Travolta but no! PGA winner donks ago, Also was a 'Tad Moore' 62' wedge which i stupidly tried in a semi covered range , i hit the roof nearly directly above me! oops!

Really enjoying the shorts, and seeing your extensive collection of Knick knacks . Looking forward to more on course videos as well. You have a dedicated group of followers !!

  12. Your intro's of club history and course demo play are an excellent format. I have watched your Shorts and find them interesting if not a little "quirky" in a good way with the time just right to keep interest and I mean that in a positive way. Look forward to your next posting.

Most of my Slazenger sets have those green grips and yes they do get slippery. Luckily my newly acquired xmas set ( Bruce Crampton Slazenger set ) has a very nicely corded grip. Those Sparkbrook woods look really nice. Would love to get my hands on those.😉

  14. Well done on buying the MacGregors which differ slightly to the original M-85 by being taller in the face, the originals were quite low profile with a thickish top line,I have a set of Flame Ceramic LH2's which are the left handed version from 1959,identical to the M-85 apart from dexterity.
The set runs 3-9 then a double duty pitching/sand wedge which is very heavy with a groove splitting the sole likely to achieve some bounce, they play very well and feel solid.
    Toney Penna was no mug!
The 'shorts' are perfect for the golfing collectables that you've uploaded.

Oh I definitely need a set of "Wingbacks". I knew they were McGregor's but I didn't know the moniker.

  17. Whilst I do prefer your full reviews with on course content such as this great video, I have been enjoying your ""short" videos too. I think you have space on your channel for both. Please keep up the good work, sharing your fantastic knowledge of all things classic golf.

  18. Kudos to your vast knowledge and willingness to share it with us !

  19. I ran across a set of these 1983 Colokrome irons awhile ago, and they were such a great bargain that I purchased them. They are indeed beautiful! I play them fairly regularly, and they often get compliments from other golfers.

Beautiful irons! You have a seriously impressive collection of golf equipment, I really enjoy watching your videos with all of the historical information you provide us.
