The only golf drill you will ever need to improve your takeaway in your golf swing. The correct golf takeaway will help you achieve a backswing that gives you the best opportunity to square up the club face at impact.

In this weeks golf lesson you will learn in my opinion the only golf drill you will ever need to make that first move perfect.

Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!

I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.

On YouTube and my personal website ( I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.

Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble

I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

    1. Danny, this is such a good drill that works, how do we go about booking lessons for our customers with you?

      Thank you

I’m 14 started playing golf when I just turned 13, for Xmas I got golf lessons and new clubs looking forward to play as I get older as I love the sport. Need to improve on my swing and this video really helped thanks 😀

Danny, this drill is amazing. It has finally helped me shape my shots better to left. Unfortunately, I went from a 1 way miss golfer (slice/cut) to now hitting hooks and pulls, haha but I'll take it. I'm working on it but this drill has honestly expanded my arsenal. Dog leg lefts are not as intimidating anymore. I just keep working with the club and a tee in the grip. Thank you!

    4. Tom Bruce says:

Do you regard this as a 'one piece takeaway' – I was always warned this was not a good thing. My takeaway looks a bit like your dad's. However, my downswing looks OK, with some decent lag?

    5. Danny, your instructions "speak to me" I walk away hopeful and energized to improve my game, (which I have). Ok crummy weather today, a cup of tea, turn on some music and off to the garage to hit into the net …………..onward!

    6. Happy New year and thanks fore your videoes.

    7. Tom Tenney says:

Found this video today and took the tip to the range. Worked great! Only hit 4 out of 90 balls offline. The rest were straight and longer than normal. Need to work on the techniques some more, but plan to incorporate some parts of this in my pre-shot routine. Thanks Danny!

Hi Danny I'm a new golfer of only 4months, I practise drills every other day and find your videos soo informative. A question 🤔 on this drill you hinge the wrists is that just to lift the club off the floor so the practice swings are above ground or when setting up to the ball to hit it should that hinge apply thanks Andy.

    9. Andy Smith says:

If I could hit the ball like Danny , I’d definitely feel this upbeat and cheerful on a golf course at 8 o clock in the morning,or some unearthly hour.

    10. Best videos in golf categories keep up the good work 👏

    11. The best explanation I have ever encountered of something that should be simple, but has been an absolute nightmare for me for the past 50 years. So appreciative of your work here Danny. Thank you!!

    12. rjf says:

Thanks Danny, I really appreciate your videos I am 6'6" tall and have a real problem of taking the club straight up 1/2 way through my takeaway. I haven't been able to master the correct wrist movement to flatten my swing. Do you have any suggestions, I haven't seen one of you videos that addresses this ? Thanks very much

    13. The harder I try to incorporate this the worse I hit my irons. My drives are great. 80% in the fairways. Irons are shanks, tops, extreme pulls to the left. Maybe one sweet shot per round. I was told that I was going way past parallel…..John Daly swing, and way too quick. Rarely break 100. Tried to shorten my backswing and slow down. Disaster! After playing for 52 years it’s hard to make changes. Thanks for the video

    14. teaingeneva says:

Cant believe how much difference this made. Last week on the range I hit 100 balls. Only 30 were straight. After watching this one and the driver one, I hit 85 good ones. Thanks so much. I am only 64.

    15. Jarvatius says:

We need you in Spain! 🙏

    16. Mike Davey says:

It looks as though the leg action/pressure shift starts as the wrists start to cock. I.e. during the initial takeaway to hands at hip height the legs are fairly static. Is this a correct observation? Thanks, Mike.

    17. What club are you hitting here?
I notice how smooth yet strong your swing is.
What feeling do you have when practicing? I’ve only been playing for 3 years and it has been awesome and challenging at the same time. Do you have lessons for purchase online or some kind of training school?
Sorry for so many questions lol I just got back from playing 18 and scoring a 96 and it’s very frustrating. I was wondering if you have online lessons or courses etc. You seem like a really cool dude that could help me.

Danny looks like a beaut golf course..where is it?

    20. If your golf pro don't start with cementing this once you take lessons you can move on to the next one. It makes such a big difference. My swingthought is always to start with my shoulders which gives the same effect. Great job Danny

    21. kevreck says:

Danny, when I saw this video, I thought there was no way I was this wristy at the takeaway. I stood up, grabbed a club and boy was I wrong! Gonna take this to the range today and I have high hopes of more consistent contact. Thank you
