San Diego State needs to be the Pac-12's next announcement l Pac-12 Podcast

San Diego State’s administration (AD and President) have now both indicated that a power 5 move is in the school’s future. They’ve made it clear the Pac-12 is their top spot, but that they’re open to the Big 12 if nothing comes to pass.

Today’s episode of Locked On Pac-12 is a crossover with Josh Neighbors of Locked On Big 12. They discuss the Big 12’s announcement of playing football/basketball games in Mexico City, and whether or not that might catch the eye of Arizona.

The Pac-12 has had an eventful, yet uneventful, last few months in which they’ve taken it on the chin from a PR standpoint without a media deal. Spencer and Josh discuss the league’s strategy and how it might (or might not) be indicative of what to expect in the coming weeks.

    Not enough information

  2. Daryl Lytton says:

I'm a long time Arizona Wildcat fan and their conference. I was a fan during the WAC years! Many readers today were not born in the WAC era. I never approved of the behavior of the PAC 12 bosses. We should have added San Diego to the PAC YEARS ago. The PAC 12 schools do not have to join any other Conference. They should get off their collective arsis and add San Diego State and two Texas schools. What broadcast area the PAC 12 schools are in does not mean a damned thing. Also South Dakota would be a great school to add, as well as Gonzaga in Basketball only. Build a great conference and they will always be a power conference. AS for USC and UCLA leaving—just wait until they start getting their butts kicked by the East Coast schools. They are targets! AS for the PAC 12 Network–I hate it and I will never subscribe to that goofy network. If access were free it would reach many more people across the USA. It does not matter what TV area, what matters is great football and Hoops.

  3. Sounds interesting. I'll wait and see what comes up before I get too excited or upset.

  4. Michael Wall says:

no I am correct. Nothing Spencer has said was accurate or factual. Josh was not obnoxious. Spencer has been notorious rude along with Altimore who I have defended. I understand that the Democrat Terrorists of the PAC12 will try to Bull shit their way as always. I agree Big12 Mexico not a super bright idea but not necessarily negative. Now I contend that I don’t want any PAC school in the Big12 for numerous reasons. You guys are arrogant, narcissistic, ignorant, rude, hypocritical, delusional, and clueless. I don’t think any PAC school joins this go around. But next negotiations everything will be different. By the way you grease monkey squeakers, neither man in this crossover is yelling. But from the debate from other night and the constant noise from PAC people and postulating by PAC media members are just ridiculous. By the way Dennis Dodd, Jim Williams, SBJ guys have no dog in this hunt and the crap from you clown cowards who should not be in my country is revolting and disgusting and dishonest at best. I am right about all this and you don’t like it. Again I don’t want any PAC schools in the Big12 for their destructive policies and agendas and rather seen them stick together and fall down to AAC level (who they clearly from history did not learn from on what not to do on media negotiations and retaining power status) and be highest paid non power conference but no longer a seat at the table if not careful.

  5. Damien K says:

We do not want this conversation. We want Josh terminated. He’s horrible. Yeah, I hear ya, I got a little too frisky. Not necessarily terminated, but spoken to about his demeanor and crazy personal bias in his smack talking. Not even because he’s passionate, he’s too subjective. Acting like the L14 is so amazing and the PAC 12 is the Sun Belt, even though they’re 3-6 months ahead of where the PAC 12 is and how the Mexico game is so incredibly innovative and blah blah blah. He loses credibility and looks like a little fanboy. It unfortunately ruins the segment, I tune it out, and can’t stand the guy. I literally do not like the way he behaves like a sugar high toddler. Not because he’s right, because he acts like a jackass. Knock it off.

  6. Damien K says:

He so badly wants the PAC 12 to fail. Who cares what you think idiot.

  7. Damien K says:

Omg, Josh is a goofy little dude who has to try and pump his conference up over dumb stuff. Spence, this dude is NOT on your level, stop doing these cross talks.

  8. Damien K says:

Josh is so much a homer. My god is there a less objective journalist? He’s hard to listen to.

  9. Tony Morgan says:

Spencer your the man. Standing your ground very composed. This guy is very obnoxious. Non realistic.

  10. Gum Ball says:

    Hmm…..Mexico
Universty of Cartels and the University of Fentynal.
    Just what college football needs….NOT!

  11. Gum Ball says:

    More B.S.
    MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE!
    IF IF IF!
    I THINK I THINK I THINK!
I'm crazy because I listen to all this crap.

  12. Why would anybody in their right mind join a sinking ship. All the PAC is doing is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. It is listing badly and will sink dramatically.

  13. Big 12 guy- they looked around and no one had options, that brings you together pretty quickly. Not the case here. You know that 😉

  14. Sam Walters says:

Almost hilarious how biased Big12 boy is. The guy is clearly hoping for the downfall of the PAC and reveling in the bad press, but then tries to pull the “I DONT think like that other people do”……bro we can see right through you. You are jerking yourself off about how bad the PAC deal is before you even know what the deal is. 😂 all Spencer is saying is you can’t draw conclusions before the deal is actually done and he completely fails to grasp that because he wants to jerk off BIG12 Jesus Mr Yormark lol

  15. Of course there can be revenue sharing but it would strictly be between OU/OSU and WA/WSU. When your looking at 6 million a year you will give up 5 to keep the PAC together.

The PAC guy is right. The Big 12 is on a sugar high. When that wears off, you see neither of these conferences are that hot. Big 12 though made the best strategic move and that is why they’re winning.

Big 12 is bringing 3 teams up from the minors this year. Thumbing nose at SDSU is funny. Some Big 12 people don’t want CO or Utah which is hilarious.

Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey are amazing cities but if these games are played on the border I don’t think anyone will go for obvious reasons so being an hour away from border doesn’t matter much.

The only real intelligent and accurate part of this conversation is on the banks falling. Going to hit every region regardless of conference affiliation

  16. Brandon H says:

Wouldn’t be mad seeing Tulane, USF, and then maybe SMU be next after SDSU

  17. The only party the pac is hosting is a surprise party and the surprise media deal continues to not walk thru that door.

GK has been silenced by the presidents in the pac because he continually made himself and the conference look foolish.

If the pac could have gotten a Big XII level media rights deal they would have already signed it.

The pac continues to look into the cushions of couches to find Pennie’s to try to get to the value of a Big XII media rights deal.

  18. Ron Bates says:

I really like you, Spencer. But, I’ve had enough of this other clown.

I’m an Oregon Duck AND an Iowa State Cyclone fan. I’m a graduate of both schools and love each conference. Just, not this guy.

  19. this big 12 in Mexico sounds just like Larry Scott's ideal to put the pac 12 in the far eas and they played basketball and olympic sports in China. it was a failure. The Mexico thing is nice but it but not a big deal.

  20. T G says:

BTW, Yoda doesn't kick rocks………….he levitates them.

  21. T G says:

Josh needs to be reminded that the delta between $22 million and $31 million is a bit smaller than the delta between $300 million and $2.3 BILLION!!!! The value of membership to the schools in the PAC is so head and shoulders above that of membership in the XII (a conference whose identity has changed as frequently as Latin American dictatorships) to those schools it would be like comparing the war fighting and winning ability of the pre-Revolutionary Continental Army of 1776 to the entirety of the modern US DoD. Oh and by the way……..the XII didn't negotiate anything new by way of a TV deal, they simply exercised an existing option to extend their current deal, an option which does not exist for the PAC. The PAC is actually negotiating a new deal. Legos vs. Skyscrapers.

  22. DRS says:

Dios mio skinny Newman is dumb. His whole take is I read something online so it is true! Or he states an unproven negative opinion and then claims victory when it can't be disproven with facts… facts that don't exist because it was hypothetical in the first place.

  23. chechex says:

I'm a USC alum and I live in Mexico city. Just FYI, no one in Mexico who isn't an alumn of one of the schools will give two shits about a big 12 game. And there aren't many

  24. Mr. Guy says:

I would rather the PAC take what’s available. Then work on building your reputation back and improving fan attendance and generating a bigger demand . So you can get a good media deal next time around. They are acting like this is the last media deal they will ever get. I don’t understand

  25. Lol! Spencer isn't too bright, but he's got that PAC arrogance.

  26. Malmy PDX says:

Best Locked on show yet. Love hearing both sides represented and having their positions and assumptions challenged. Way better than meaningless echo-chamber inside the bubble talk.

  27. Juan Klein says:

Josh, DUDE, chill out on the Mexico thing. It ain’t all that… it’s cute whatever lol.

  28. hahaha what indication is there (other than the very people who involved with the deal and directly participating in it saying it) that there is any chance this is whats going to happen…. what an ass clown. It may not happen but jesus christ this dude is just drowning in the coolaid.

  29. While Mr. Neighbors asserted that this "debate" is what people want, I beg to differ.

I don't care for Mr. Neighbor's shouting, nor for his apparent difficulty with both reason and nuance. It seemed like he was taking a more measured position, in your last discussion; but he reverted to the more obnoxious behavior displayed in earlier crossover episodes.

Segments like these aren't fun. They are tired and grating. Please discontinue them, at least until there's an actual development.

  30. ReisterJP says:

9:35 8 teams in bowl games …only won 2 bowl games!

  31. BLD (Big Lubbock Delusion) knows no bounds! ✌🤠✌ Lol

  32. SDSu has about 15 or so solid recruits a year. guys offered by multiple top P5 programs but the other 10 is pretty thin mostly tweeners who fi their 3-3-5. going to Pac 12 will immediately up that to 25 top recruits. increase in revenue will pump up the NIL. So I think SDSU will start out about 8-4 in the beginning.

  33. So, SDSU is worth more than any school in the Pac? To add value they have to bring MORE tv value or they will dilute what is there.

  34. C JON says:

Great debate, well done. Giving the people what they want!

My option, SDSU will evaluate their options & make alignment choice to better their University's position for success/growth (10yr. clip).

    Primary Considerations is MONEY:
    – Conf. Media deal (Exposure, Revenue, Entry share)
    – Conf. Stablility (Leadership)
    – Conf. Projections ("known" Profitability, gains/losses, 2031 planning)

    Secondary Considerations:
    – Academic alignments
    – Geography/travel
    – Timeline constrains (MW/PAC media deal expiration)
    – Other Univ. movement (PAC/ ACC/ND?)

Let's just hope the PAC deal is released soon. These Universities (Presidents) need to make decisions. The clock is running.

We shall see I guess. Cheers

  35. Merl Abel says:

You both woke up on the wrong side of the bed!

  36. Big Vick says:

I love you guys coverage of all things PAC. All Neighbors arguments work the other way for the PAC getting everything they need to move forward successfully

  37. glperez77 says:

The top two sports in Mexico are Soccer and Baseball. Sorry, but the Big12 in Mexico does not move the needle for any bordering PAC12 Universities at all. Mexico City is over 1,300 miles from Tucson, AZ alone. Playing Big12 football & basketball games in Mexico City may attract Mexican college bound students into enrolling at Big12 Universities, but I don't see any upside to the Big12 football or basketball programs.

  38. This was like a political debate where Spencer's calm and factual reporting clearly won the day over Josh's high strung Jerry Springer fake news reporting.

  39. Big 12 is just begging for some other schools to join their conference. Big 12 has no relevant schools that can move the needle. Pac 12 don’t have no blood in USC anymore but they have better brands and media markets .

  40. Neighbors is hard to listen to. Obnoxious.

  41. T Mack says:

SDSU is about 25 minutes from the Mexico border or maybe less. The football program did have a down year last year but over the past 6 years they have a winning record against the PAC-12. Spencer’s point was valid. SDSU would be in the upper tier in PAC-12 as long as they solved the problems from last season. 2021 season they did beat Utah.
