Damn whats a tip – Just watched – i haven't hit a ball yet since watching this but i know its gonna help! I feel more control on the back swing as i hold the club right now.

I was definitely a palm gripper!!

  2. I use the interlock method but am topping the ball badly. I’m just not making good clean shots with my irons. Not making good contact. Any tips please

  3. I’m a righty and use an interlock. It just makes me feel more secure and in sync with my arms. I place my left thumb straight down which I now know to change. Looking forward to taking some swings with adjustments

  4. Definitely gripping the club wrong.

  5. MrZocor says:

Moves more in the fingers. Have no control of the club at all that way.

  7. I use the interlock grip

  8. Hi Todd -greetings from Iceland, thank you for this tip, I have holes in my glove…I bought a new one and change my grip to your method and my swing is much easier to control and the ball flies more straight…more control, lighter swing, slowed down my speed back and my ball is going further and straight…. thank you again for this tip 🙂

Todd, All your videos are great, so thank you for doing them. When you grip the club correctly, where does you thumb end up? On top of the shaft or slightly to the side? Cranbrook BC Canada

  11. Is this the same grip for woods & driver? Richard Lockmiller Winchester, Tennessee 71 years old

Hey Todd. I use an overlapping grip.. played yesterday. Shot 39 on the front nine. Shot 49 on the back nine. Lol. However, I do have an excuse. The temperature dropped down to about 35° and the wind was blowing about 20 miles an hour. I was cold and hungry. So it ceased to be fun. I was happy with the front nine though. Love this vertical line swing

  13. Hi Todd, great job. I use the interlock grip for more accurate shots, and i use the Vardon grip for the "finesse" shots. I always grip the club the way you are showing in this lesson. Ile-des-chenes, Manitoba Canada Can't wait to get out and hit some balls. Great job to Nick also 🙂

  14. What about the right hand?

  15. Good afternoon,
I felt like my left thumb was way to the right on the club. I tried shift my thumb back towards the middle (slightly to the right of it). Feels very awkward. Is there anyway we can FaceTime or anything to check my grip?

    Regards,
    Joseph

  16. Thats exactly whats happened to my glove will definitely give your tip a go thanks buddy 👍 will let you know how it goes 😊

  17. Love your work, yet when I placed the club more in my fingers I get the shanks on chipping, only..when I placed it just shy of the palm not only does shanking stop, but I strike the ball more purely while it goes farther…I have tried every variation of grip style anþhe overlapping grip works best and feels best..Stressdr.

And so the bottom hand isn’t important?

3.5 minutes spent on how to grip the club wrong. why not spend more time on how to do it right?

  20. I'm interlock for sure. 10 finger feels like I would come over it and hook it. Overlap feels out of control for me.

    Look it up on google!
Jack held the club more in the palm of his left hand not in the fingers like everyone is teaching today….has completely changed my game much easier to control the club now…

You only showed one hand we golf with two😂

  24. This is a great instructional video. After watching this many times I've gone to practice and after looking at my glove it's fair to say I've been holding the club in my Palm all this time and the wear marks on the glove proves it.
Obviously because I've been holding the club wrong all along I'm finding the proper grip into the fingers very strange so it's taking some getting used to. I would love to use the Vardon/overlap grip but again after using the interlocking all this time the overlap seems odd.

15 years ago before I ever played golf my left hand got caught in a woodworking machine and I lost the top half of my ring finger so that is now the length of my little finger, so I've not got a good grip I would say.
Do you recommend I continue to try the overlap or something else?
    Kris

3 mins before you started telling us the proper grip!!

  26. I use an interlock grip. Tried the overlap, but it felt odd and a little less secure. I've found upping the grip size on my clubs very helpful. Jumbo grips were too much, but midsize work for me. I have reasonably large hands and long fingers and had to hold the club too firmly with thin grips. Now I find I can keep the hands relaxed.

  27. Just read "Bad Lie", do you use the same grip for short game + bunkers?

  28. Bill Steffey says:

I forgot one thing. I never wore a golf glove ever and my hands don't get sore. When I went home I hit hundreds of balls each day on the driving range for 4 days. Then 2 more days of 18 holes each day and never wore a glove. What's the percentage of golfers who don't wear a glove?

  29. Bill Steffey says:

Hey Todd, I'm Bill and I just started golf at 48 years old. I drive a truck over the road for Stans out of South Dakota. I live by Chattanooga, TN. I got interested in golf because my company has a charity golf scramble each year and the guys have a lot of fun. Then sometimes I get to play in Huron, SD and I play at home in Chattanooga, TN. I also have a hitting net I carry in the truck which I can practice in the parking lot. I just got your book on Kindle and I watch you on you tube. Also I listened to you on Golf Smarter Podcast. It's a lot of fun and good exercise.
