THIS position is costing you height and distance! Michael Breed Explains.

A key component of power and lift in your golf shots is making sure that your trail elbow doesn’t get pinned to your rib cage in the backswing… If your depth is too great, you will jeopardize your chances of creating more loft and greater distance. Follow a few simple steps and we’ll have you lowering scores and creating more accuracy… #LetsDoThis #TransformationalTip #TransformYourGame

  1. Wow, some of the nasty comments here from the so-called experts. I met Michael Breed at the Golf Show in Toronto a few years ago and I can't say enough about the man. I don't watch Golf lessons anymore on the Golf Channel ever since Martin Hall took over. He is so full of it, you need a John Deere tractor to haul the cow dung away. He is nauseating to listen to and terribly confusing with all his coat hangers and other contraptions. Michael Breed is a real nice guy, modest and approachable and he knows more about the golf swing than you friggin golf pros that post here. I suggest you read Hank Haney's book or watch Nick Faldo who says the same thing with his preset golf swing drill.

  2. Mark Huru says:

Th pinned elbow is Miguel immenz…

  3. David Bervig says:

Incredible! I love this guy! I just looked at my down the line video and I do that big time. I'm too inside and and my arm gets pinned. I think this also leads me hitting it off the hosel as well.

  4. saltypatriot says:

This advice took my drives from 220 and 230 to a 275 to 285 with a draw

  5. Most of PGA tour players never can make this drill…

  6. Hugh Jass says:

I've been trying these triangle swing drills for a year and can't get a hang of it. Videos don't help me at all (I'm a 5 handicap)

  7. Rob McCance says:

    ricky fowler swing

Some people can play pinned (Hogan, Flowler, etc) and some people have really bad issues when pinned.

Issues like lack of power, sucking the club to the inside on the way back, shanking, left shoulder and back pain, etc.

Also – this pinned position requires a LOT more flexibility to pull off, so older golfers can forget it.

  8. Ed K says:

Michael, this is the best drill I've ever seen to fix what has been ailing my golf swing. I kept getting stuck and couldn't figure out why I was throwing my arm out on the downswing. Thanks for the tip! Ed Kirsteins Deerfield, NY

  9. What are you talking about. ???????? you need to watch Ben Hogan, probably the best ball Stricker ever lived. I think you should think about retiring. Sorry but that's a load of baloney.

  10. Fantastic advice, thank you

  11. Ed K says:

Michael, I can truly relate to this I have the same issue. Thanks for explaining it so well. Keep the great tips coming.

  12. kbkesq says:

Sorry but his swing looks a lot like hogan at the top. Many of us do need to let the arm allow rise. Not so sure about him.

  13. Ugh! A video in the vertical, not horizontal position! 😉

  14. Andy P. says:

Thank you Michael, I don't have to submit my swing. You just illustrated perfectly what I need to work on. Glad I found your channel. Thank you!!!!!

  15. It’s a Ben Hogan move

  16. God I miss you on the Golf Channel, just found you again…GREAT!

  17. You are saying the exact opposite of Saguto golf!!
    Whose right?

  18. Tranlavery says:

Hogan had a very similar pined movement in the back swing as far as l can see .and he did ok !

  19. Good luck selling this tip to Rickie Fowler

  20. Guy can’t break 90

  21. Everyone running in circles over something so simple LOL

  22. Mightymole says:

My elbow is pinned and I do not rotate my hands! I have learned to swing more up/around than just around. This has shortened my swing and more draw shots. If he kid swung more up the swing-path it would put his forearm horizontal to the ground. That'll be $100

  23. I wonder what Mr. Hogan would think of this advice since his elbow did exactly what Michael here is saying not to do.
That is the problem with golf instruction, instructors want you to swing like them, instead of finding your swing. What I think people don't realize is the amount of coordination that goes into the golf swing especially considering every single hinge, pivot, position, etc… in the human body. If you have a swing that gives you power and accuracy, just groove it until it is yours. All the pros swing differently and I'm always amazed how instructors (online or not) find flaws in professional golf swings without recognizing that these professionals play at the highest level of golf with those flawed golf swings which is more than any instructor has accomplished.

  24. Glad I found Michael's personal channel. I used to watch him all the time on the Golf Channel. I'm impressed with the way he can spot very subtle flaws in a golfer's swing and then recommend the needed corrections.

  25. This is exactly exactly exactly what I do… I've been looking for this video Brill!!! 🙂

  26. I had a lesson two days ago and this video reinforces what I was taught. I'm struggling with long irons (including some shanks) even though I am 10 handicap. I am looking forward to taking Michael's drills firstly onto the range then the course. I have realised over time that advice from YouTube can be general but this routine is specific and, for those whose swing is like mine, this video is a gem.

  27. Doug Kercher says:

    Power and pulls…

  28. so did Charles try this? whats the feedback, anyone knows? i have a flat swing like him, but elbow less aggressive. still would love to hear how that worked for him..

  29. Integrito says:

Many thanks for taking the time to post this Michael! Of great value and much appreciated! Saw a Holly Sonders video where she makes this distinctive move and thought, "wow that's interesting"! Keep up the great work! Liked and subscribed!

  30. Home boy needs to watch Bubba Watson swing a club. Make big circles.

  31. C Kramer says:

Isn’t that what Ben Hogan did on his backswing? I’d say he wasn’t too bad of a golfer.

  32. Breed you are wrong…this kid doesn't have enough lower body rotation, it's all hands and arms like most ams

  33. reccen1 says:

The snobbish unshielded conceptually grip because argument electronmicroscopically decide through a encouraging sleep. innate, steadfast fuel

  34. Raul schwarz says:

Michael I'm 64 and hands hurt a bit…How does jumbo grips affect grip and or swing or even pour impact ? Thanks

  35. This was huge for me,, thanks!!

  36. saltypatriot says:

I went from shooting low 70s and 80s to the yips, listening to people say turn, turn ,turn, a d no lift… I can tell u now there is lift…Im on a comeback

  37. saltypatriot says:

Man I've missed him on the golf channel, so glad I found this channel….And even better he isnt on a 30 minute crunch,so he slowed down just a touch….Great video

  38. Charles Rohl says:

    Nice tip Michael !👌

  39. All I can say is that if you're SUCH an expert on golf, then why are you making shit videos instead if being up there with Woods and McIlroy????????????

  40. Jason zeng says:

so it's like a baseball swing, correct me if i get it wrong

  41. JD says:

That guy is totally wrong>>> watch "CENTER" it moves with his arms!!…

  42. Fredster says:

Will also encourage across the line it's horses for courses

  43. Michael Dodd says:

The Golf Channel has gone downhill since this guy left!!

  44. B Johnson says:

Point of discussion: Isnt this exactly what Hogan did?
But Hogan, they say, bent his irons flat to accommodate the lower plane.
Keeping the trail arm on top in the takeaway keeps the clubhead on or above plane, correct?
Your student's downswing seems to have the trail elbow in a good position ala Sergio Garcia….
    Thanks for the vid Michael.
