Welcome back! If you have ever struggled with consistency on the course (I think we all have) Then this is for you. In this lesson, I’ll be using a hammer to illustrate the mechanics of a powerful swing and how it aligns with the key principles of ball striking, and when you watch this you will see just how easy the golf swing can, and should, be.
We’ll delve into the core aspects of a successful golf swing and how they relate to the proper use of a hammer. By understanding the parallels between these two seemingly unrelated activities, you’ll gain valuable insights that will transform your approach to the game.
Whether you’re a beginner looking to build a solid foundation or an experienced golfer seeking to refine your swing, this video is tailored just for you. You’ll soon realise that the most consistent way to swing, whether it’s a hammer or a golf club, is not in a straight line but with a controlled, rhythmic motion.

Great video as usual – love the getting into the spot – i now do that on the backswing and downswing – also love turning the club over to feel like a hammer 😊🙏🏌🏼♂️
👌#hammertime
You better tee off with that thing before the end of this video!
Chris, I have one question, which is, how far apart are the alignment rods from the toe one to the outside alignment rod ? Great visual concept . Thank you!!
Wow such perfect insite, my favorite is checking the position of the club face on the pump drill. If your wrist is flat or slightly bowed your off to good scores!!
This is a really well explained concept of "the slot" thank you.
You also DON’T use TWO hands to hammer a nail.
So, … is the impact position mostly RIGHT hand? 🤔
Or as Ben Hogan said, “I wish I had THREE right hands” ☝🏻
I’ve been focusing on the LEFT arm (esp in the backswing), and a FLAT LEFT wrist.
Should I be focusing on the EIGHT hand, as if hammering into the back of the ball?
Chris, great video the explanation was spot on and made sense to me. I struggle with a hook and realized I was to far inside the slot at parallel. This little drill has helped me tremendously! Been a subscriber for awhile now and get better using your instructions!
This was a very clever and succinct video. Nice work!
The flat portion of the hammer head is very surprisingly called the FACE. 😀
That's a really good video.
A J Bonar explanation regurgitated.
Excellent golf coaching, as always. However! Not such good hammer training. Hit a nail with a hammer on an arc and you will bend the nail every time. You DO need to hit it flat for the first few strikes to get it half way in and straight before adopting a longer arc to drive it home. Pretty unimportant really.
Great video ..drills and visuals Chris as always …when you were turned the club used it like a hammer remined me of Peter Cowens axe drill he does …keep up the outstanding work
Love these tips and explanations Chris. It makes so much sense. Thanks
Always practice off a tee or a broken tee even better to promote a less steep strike (swing).
excellent video Chris, great visual and the grip test is nice also
I was just waiting for a full swing into the club…
Well done Chris, I was going to say how good this demonstration/lesson video is… but the other comments have already covered it! In all my years in golf, you remain the top golf coach I’ve come across! 👏👏👏
Thanks for the great explanation
Wow man… You’re REALLY trying to help us! You’re the G.O.A.T. When it comes to YouTube golf teachers. I’ve learned from them all and watched them all and lessons like these (with the visual illustrations and easy relatability) are what has made you my favorite! Keep it up man! Cheers 🍻!
Chris great video, can you please break down the next step, from the ‘zone’ to impact position?!! After videoing my swing I’ve found I’m not lifting back heel and turning my waist and hips towards target at “impact” enough. Cheers
Probably the best explanation I’ve seen on this topic. Can’t wait to apply it on the range. Thank you
Well done Chris 👏 😊
wow really good examples and instructions thanks
Great insight again
Chris: Great visual with the slot "lanes" — question for you as it relates to the longer clubs as the shaft gets longer and the swing arc gets more shallow like for driver and woods, would that "lane" that you created with the alignment sticks be angled a little more from the inside rather than parallel to the ball-to-target line? Meaning, for the longer clubs wouldn't the slot position be a little more angled slightly from the inside to avoid getting too steep especially with the longer shafted clubs?
It’s hammer time, BOOM, POW, WHAM!!!!
Briliant!! The green are did it for me!! Thank you so much!!
How good was that video, hats off to you, Chris, so so so simple explanation, Darran
perfect video man. Great and simple example of correct swing path and club head control 💪🏻
