Golf instructor Butch Harmon says the direction of your takeaway really dictates everything you do in the swing. You want the club head to start back first, followed by the hands and arms and the left shoulder.

A good takeaway
is a takeaway that starts
everything together.
Club head moves,
followed by hands and arms, left shoulder.
You don’t wanna start the handle first.
You don’t wanna start the shoulders first.
You want everything to move together.
You’ve got your waggle.
You’re ready to go.
A lot of people like to think of this triangle
formed by your left arm and your right arm
and your shoulders.
That you move that triangle together.
It’s a very good way to check your backswing
to make sure you’re in a proper position.

I have been playing golf for 60 years and only got a case of the shanks one time for about 3 months. I hate to go against a renown golf teacher who is known as the coach of the pros, but he is WRONG about why people shank the ball. It is NOT because of a closed clubhead. A pro plays all day hitting the ball perfectly and out of the blue he shanks one. He could not play great shots and then one time close the clubhead which if he had not nicked the hosel, that closed clubhead as shown on this video would have sent the ball way LEFT have you ever seen a pro hit a wedge 50 rds left of a green -NOPE
🫵😉
If your hands go first the big muscles can't catch up. Starting the left shoulder is the only way to achieve the proper sequence which enables the player to delay the hit and the right side can't beat the left side which is the way Trevino swung the club. Hand starts are not reliable, especially under pressure. Starting with an open left shoulder stores power and gives you a wide arc, all of which works best especially under pressure. Worked for Hogan and Nicklaus!
you got your waggle
Short and sweet and to the point.
Some people have to criticise everything and everyone the idea of the video is to demonstrate the backswing Butch is a good age now met him once about fifteen years ago he spent nearly an hour with us just chatting about golf and Tiger a nicer man you couldn't wish to meet
These golf swing secrets and techniques “Jοmtοnο Naha” (Google it) go over the golf swing in great detail. The book is based off of the swing model of all tour professionals put together. I have read 1/2 of this book and the tips are perfect. I have scored Three straight low 80s rounds right after reading this book.
Butch opens his club face very quickly. It's not what I'd consider "moving everything together."
Butch has a good take away, i think its the greatest part of his swing, and i mean that as a compliment!! It is called "set and lock" by Phil Ritson and other great teachers. Even amatures can shoot in the 70's if they understand this concept. It is a delayed hit. The better golfers have it. The others only shoot 70's once in a blue moon. (sorry if i offended anyone)
Wish I had this stuff, 45 years ago, for High School Golf. He has helped me a lot. When I have a problem – I look up what I need and there it is. It might not be perfect – but it gives me something to work with. Golf is a humbling sport, and one that you always have to practice, to get better.
You are a dreamer DO. Your character will never allow you to be a Winner at life. Your swing thought should be "LooooooooSer!"
harry vardon and bobby jones might disagree with you there Butch
good to see so many children commenting on his belly … ensures that the game will be strong for years to come.
maybe his fat ass belly is a direct consequence of having a fat ass bank account, perhaps it is his spare change in his pockets that make him look fat . . I am just happy he takes the time to impart some knowledge to other progressive golfers in the game. . .
lol
Cause all the rest of you guys (stackleft, Will Burnell, Mox_au) are some of the highest-paid instructors in golf with your flat bellies. Maybe you should challenge Butch to a little match. He'd dust you dorks!
he probably does get wheeled around the course on a buggy
they'll have to wheel him around the course if he gets any fatter lol
