Sometimes starting out playing garbage helps out because you think the round doesn't matter and it takes the stress off. I went bogey-double-bogey in my HS league championship and completely stopped giving a $hit. I finished 6 over and in 2nd place.

  2. Colin White says:

Emphasising the pre shot routine encourages people who aren’t as good as they think they are to play more slowly.

More click bate bullshit. Most golf channels like this.
    Unsubscribed.

Mark, keep these coming… Just love the digestible bits which we can come back to!

  5. milliewray says:

Is that a Rickenbaker 360 and a Fender Jaguar behind you Mark?
    Very nice taste my man

Played level par front 9 yesterday, pared the 10th, and finished 4 over 76! Ended up with a run of bogey, double, bogey 12-14, and pared out! Missed a BUNCH of birdie putts throughout the round. Oh and my double I lost my tee shot so had to take a drop then chucked a wedge.

  7. MrPunterd says:

I played a medal today and lost my head on the 3rd as I left yet another wedge shot 10 yards short of the green. Threw my toys all over the place and lost interest in the round after making a double. Shot an 88 off 7hc. Ridiculous now I think of it but in the moment I feel so much pressure not to mess up. 🤦‍♂️

  8. Mark Barrett says:

I would also add a shot from 100 yards that you cant see land. it might look good in the air and on line but don't expect it to be witihn 6 feet when you get to the green. It might be 25 feet away or in the rough. Try not to get too disheartened and lower expectations.

  9. Jamie Sloan says:

Remember…. Your golf score doesn’t define you, as a person. The way you carry yourself DOES. Don’t take it so serious. Golf is hard. Learn to laugh off a bad shot, and just enjoy the day with your friends. I’m near scratch, and I had several rounds in the low 80’s this winter. I realized that bad weather, bad lies, horrible greens, and too much clothing makes it very difficult to score. Now that all of those variables are starting to get better, I still realize that I’m gonna hit some bad shots, and even have some bad rounds. After years of playing this game, I’m ok with that.

  10. Laughing my ass off showing coach on the pro shop porch as you talk about higher handicappers haha

  11. Adam Rude says:

Is it just me or is Mark pumping out videos left and right? Dude works hard, these aren’t simple to make

  12. Bob Jonesy always said the game was those six inches between your ears

  13. The Watchman says:

I find my mental game is exceeding strong until I take my first shot.

  14. Sean During says:

My take away from the video is hitting it off the golf school is the best way to play the hole well 🤷‍♂️

  15. Normally love your stuff and the Hack it out podcast.

Would have listened longer here if you had slowed down!

Also 1.2 strokes or so difference not so large.

  16. Sean Cook says:

Totally do this. Have played a par front 9, looked at the 23 Stableford points on my card and promptly tripled the 10th. Did something similar the other day. Cruising after 6 holes. Just writing down numbers, playing partner says hey your playing great only one over. Promptly became aware of the potential and doubled the next hole! 😂

  17. Pretty simple analysis. Good shots with hat flipped backwards. Bad shots with hat in normal position. Hat is controlling your mental state 😂.

  18. Simmo-expat says:

Shot 80 yesterday with a double bogey on the last, I was then very angry. Coincidentally I had a chip into a sloping green and ended up not getting the anticipated roll back, much like yours. Oh well there’s always next week.

  19. As a player that breaks 80 about 50% of the time, I find my biggest mental hurdle is getting off to a good start because my tolerances are so tight to hit the target of breaking 80 that it’s deflating to get off slow because it’s a lot harder to get shots back when birdies are not that common. The benefit of being a lower hcp player though is I know I’m capable of hitting good shots and have memory of them vs when I was a higher hcp and feeling uneasy over shots all the time and hoping for a good result. So mental game/goals change throughout progress

  20. Guy R says:

My biggest fault is not taking my medicine when I’m offline, sometimes I’ll see a gap and try to go for it rather than the more obvious and easy route out. Often with another poor result. It’s the same as persevering with the driver when not hitting it well instead of going 3W or 3H

  21. Dan B says:

Whats the max handicap that you think should be shooting in the 70s every time out of curiosity?

  22. This aspect of the game has been huge for me. I've never been a good golfer. Never taken a lesson, and for years have made the same mistakes over and over. Struggled with consistency. Despite that, my expectations were through the ROOF for insane reasons. I used to be a real rager, getting so angry at myself and cursing my existence. Looking back on that, I am embarrassed for myself and for whoever witnessed my behavior. No more. I have made the conscious decision to enjoy the game no matter what happens. My actual score may or may not have improved despite this effort, but I'm actually enjoying myself more and remembering the good shots more than the bad. It's a VERY important part of the game and I agree with you that it is not discussed enough.

  23. This has a huge impact on scoring but in my opinion there is more emphasis in amateur golf to get round as quick as possible rather than in the least amount of shots. In those situations it’s so important not to be influenced by others to hurry up if you’re trying to gather your own thoughts. It may be there needs to be a split in the draw of serious golfers playing after the social ones in competition. 🤷‍♂️

  24. Perry Indge says:

This aspect of the game is my biggest hurdle. Thankyou.

This is amazing, keep it up!👅
