STACK & TILT – WHY YOU NEED TO MOVE YOUR HANDS IN… | GOLF TIPS | LESSON 187

Nick Taylor authorised Stack and Tilt and GOLFTEC instructor discusses the hand path in the Stack and Tilt golf swing.

In writing the Stack and Tilt book, Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett came up with 10 words to describe the Stack and Tilt swing. The 10 Words are: Weight Forward, Shoulder Down, Hands In, Arms Straight and Hips Tucked.

In this video Nick explains how and why you need to move the hands inwards in the golf swing and shares a drill to help you play better golf.

Nick: Should I try to brush my right hip pocket with my hands in the backswing and downswing! Obviously I can't really do this, but try to??? I struggle with shanks and poor ball contact. Thanks!

  2. psedler says:

Thanks. Do not listen to the teachers saying do not stay connected. I did that for years and hit ok shots and decent power. By keeping connected and using body correctly at age 57 my power is now awesome. Gained a full club on all shots and 25 – 30yds consistently on drives. Was 255 carry driver before and now 280 carry.

  3. Thank you Nick 👊🏼

  4. Ed says:

Thanks for all your videos. I've got three Stack and Tilt book but your videos really explain the method better. Had first round today using method and generally went very well. Some shots were really compressed beautifully which isn't something I struggle with.

  5. Tom Howarth says:

How far in should you take your hands in, in the back swing? I feel like if I take them in too far it restricts the length of my backswing (even with what appears to be good shoulder tilts).

  6. Mike Crosby says:

All your videos are great. This one especially. The drill is really good. When I don't use it I throw two tees down to remind me when practicing. Stack and Tilt is so much easier.

  7. todd sieja says:

The down of shoulder and extension is everything! You explain it so well! Thanks 🥃🥃🥃🥃⛳️👍🏼

  8. Jeff Paul says:

Nick, thank you for this great info! Question: some instructors say have wide arms on the take back and “curl” the trail arm to the top. This doesn’t seem to work with a stack and tilt, right?

  9. John Smith says:

it's funny, I have always suffered from an inside takeaway…so what did I do to prevent it I kept pushing the clubhead further and further away on the takeaway…well of course that whips it inside…now I bring my hands in.and it FEELS like the club head is going massively inside but it isn't, my hands are…

game is so fascinating how Illogical it is sometimes…slicing to the right (swinging left or aiming left makes ir work)…

    truly a fascinating game

  10. Mike Dunham says:

Do the tees stay in your arm pit through the entire swing, or do they drop out as you finish your swing?

  11. Mike Dunham says:

How can I purchase the grid for my home practice mat?

  12. Jim Bennette says:

Nick I love the video I was wondering where I can get a stack and tilt grid like yours so I can practice handpath and club path?

  13. Nick I live in the midlands in uk. Do you know of a stack and tilt pga instructor I can get some lessons off near me. I can’t find one

  14. S and t much easier on my 74 year old back!

  18. Birdlegs says:

Great video, just saw another one about power and Dustin, he does not take in the hands, more take them out, but yes i understand the concept.

  19. CK Lam says:

I noticed your knees flex very efficiently turning all along. Got to try that, too. Thank you Nick. Keep up the good work, you are great help to the golfing mass. Cheers

  20. ERIC S says:

I like it, can't wait to try it. Thanks Nick!!

  21. Teddy Zamba says:

That is quite outstanding and does make for consistent contact. If you allow your right arm to fold with the elbow down and to your side, I suppose this accomplishes the same result, so that can maintain the club angle and thereby deliver the clubface back to the ball at the proper plane. That club angle does appear to be a critical element in the individual golf swing. Ping had an excellent selling feature with multiple lie angles….the golf industry is so screwed up it boggles the mind, no wonder nobody knows what the sam hill they are doing out there in the wilderness. A class action lawsuit; similar to the tobacco companies should be executed against the fraudulent golf industry. There is quite literally the complete opposite instruction for every instruction in golf; just a maze of confusion and misery and triple bogeys….thanks, you idiots…geeesch.

  22. Nick your videos are great! I’ve become a fan of S&T and currently working to make the changes. One question i have, it seems like your placing the ball (with an 8iron) much further forward than the traditional instruction which is middle. Can I assume that the ball must be in line with your lead arm? Does it change for the longer irons or always stay the same? Thank you.

  23. Hal Landrith says:

I struggle greatly with not the hands coming in but the club head getting inside my hands on the takeaway. The hands in term is somewhat misleading because it is hand in but not club in. That is hard to bring hands in without bringing club in. At least for me.

  24. Randy Mahony says:

I just found your channel today and you've helped me already. I'm a subscriber and a believer now. Thanks Nick.

  25. Anonymous says:

Would you use the same tip with the tees uner your arms for using the driver?

  26. Barry Brady says:

Played on Sunday using parts of the stack and tilt. Worked so well, i am going to try and practice the key moves. Great videos Nick. Really helpful.

  27. k carr says:

Jim Furyk goes off plane back and up but brings it back into the slot…. However, simple just back and through is easier than that high up lift twisting and trying to find the slot coming back…..and..with it all happening in milli seconds….KEEP IT SIMPLE… ENJOY MORE SHOTS

  28. Robert Dorr says:

Nick, I have always had a problem with coming to far from the inside and hit a lot hooks, big draws, blocks and pushes. I have tried to weaken my grip but the face and path still seem to far apart. I have lots of trouble with fairway woods and hybrid. I tend to smoother hook. I have been trying the stack and tilt method this year. Keeping my hand in seems to make me come to far from the inside. Any thoughts you have would be welcomed.

  29. Greg Hill says:

Nick: Great Drill! Thanks! Can you overdo the hands in? Should I try to brush my rear leg in the backswing? Also: should I try to keep the connection with the golf tees under my arms even in a full driver swing? Thanks for all your help!
    Greg

  30. db vfx says:

Do you bend your right arm and if so how do you limit it to not going past 90 degrees and possibly over swinging?

  31. Mark Rowley says:

Wow…placed tee pegs under arms at driving range.. hit the ball fantastic
2 over on virtual golf at pga National off the blues…top tracer

Connected rotation seems to give me consistency
    Many thanks 🙏🏻 Nick

  32. Sir_Godz says:

Nick, you are melting. How frikin hot is it there?

  33. Hi Nick, big fan, this is a great video. This does seem to force my right knee to completely straighten. Is completely straight ok?

  34. But you aren't just lifting the arms up! You're turning your shoulders as you lift the club up. Keep the tri -angle as you do your take away.

  35. stryker2828 says:

Quality instructions! Can you do one on lead side moving down during initial transition? My left shoulder pops up too quickly which leads to flips and thinned shots

  36. Thanks for the lesson! I've played golf for a long time now but got stuck for ages at around an 18 handicap. With my "old" swing there were way too many moving parts and complexity. I more recently adopted the stack and tilt method and almost immediately (approximately 6 weeks) got down to around 14 handicap. I'm almost certain that a few more months and I'll get down to single figures.
