Today on the channel, I drive the Alfa Romeo 164 QV. The hot version of Alfa’s 164 Saloon, introduced back in 1987 and discontinued only in 1998. It was conceived from the ground up as a car that could challenge the superiority of the Germans, and came very close – but what went wrong?

    Alfisti persempre 🍀👍

  3. [me, at the third minute of the video] ”BUS-SO!… BUS-SO!… BUS-SO!… "
    4:06 WEEEEEEE!

  4. I daily drive a 91 12valve, absolutely amazing fun to commute

  5. I feel sorry for the clutch.

  6. "The Car BMW Should Have Feared". But it didn't! And that's the greatness of BMW

  7. Come on Jay, no bastard considers a 164 the last true Alfa… That goes to the Alfa 75 and by extension, the SZ/RZ

  8. I don't understand the door shutting thing at 12:25. Can someone please explain?

  9. Alfa 164 was over 20 years the official italian police car,in small towns, the favorite for agents👍

  10. Is that steering wheel from MB 124?

  11. I bought one in 1992

  12. Beautiful car but well they rust when you drool over them a little too much

  13. Have a sub weird man. Happy birthday? 😁

  14. The last true Alfa? That was sharing the platform with the FIAT Croma, Lancia Thema and SAAB 9000. And it had front wheel drive.
The 75 was the last true Alfa.

  15. Ric Capucho says:

Can’t be one of the last true Alfas because (a) it wasn’t crap and (b) it wasn’t post-Alfasud. Hence I’m writing off most of the 1970-80s Alfas. Had one of these in 2.0 twinspark form back in the day. Loved it. Quick, didn’t fall into bits. Good looking, and oodles of chic.

  16. Ross Bethell says:

Let’s be fair, the saab 9000, especially in late Aero form, was the best of the four, by far! The 164 is arguably cooler and certainly in Busso guise more characterful. But in general, the 9000 was the best version.

  17. Vegard says:

Nice. I had an 1991 QV like this. And the interiour was a proper conolli leather. And the electric suspension did work. And it was noticible. It became a gocart when you pressed it. So much fun. And the memory and everything worked on it. So many good memories of this car.

  18. Last true Alfa iz Alfa 75

  20. BS, in design 164 is far beyond choking in dust behind E36, or behind any German car for that matter, even European Ford. 164 looks more like some cheaper Renault cars of the era

  21. Always loved that car. What would be really cool would be the 164 QV, the Thema 8.32 and the Saab 9000 Talladega in a "test".

  22. AimanRS2 says:

In malaysia, they were badged as 168

  23. I drove a number of Alfa 164s and Saab 9000s (hard) as a private driver during my college days and I can testify that they're miles apart.

While not particularly fast, the 2.0 Twin Spark is the best in terms of overall balance. The Busso-powered 164s are a bit nose-heavy and suffer from a lack of grip under acceleration.

I remember driving a client in a 2.0 Twin Spark Super from the Dutch border to Davos (no, not WEF headquarters) in just over 6 hours, including a delay.

Even at top speed – 235 km/h on the speedometer, downhill – the car remained very predictable due to the excellent feedback from the wheels. The chassis is one of the best of any saloon ever built. Another great example of – an even bigger – fwd saloon is the first generation Audi A8 3.7 non-quattro.

If you can get your hands on a 2nd generation Alfa 155 V6, you won't regret it. Similar features, not as sophisticated (stiff suspension) but fun to drive.

  24. RandallSlick says:

Stunning looking thing. Respect to the owner for having the balls for keeping it going. Still looks exotic today and an engine only slightly worse sounding than a VW VR6 😉

  25. Who doesn't love the sound of this engine?

  26. Mark Hall says:

My Dad had one of these back in the day. Is the exhaust blown?

  27. lairdinho says:

Awful old front drive shed. How a massively compromised car on a decade old shared front drive platform is the last true Alfa I have no idea.

  28. I had an alfa 75 3.0 great engine, poor electrics .

  29. Thanks for the video and stay safe ✌️.
