I carry 3-6 hybrids, 4w and 7w. Since I still don’t get a lot of height with my hybrids I keep the 7w in the bag when I need to hit the ball higher.

  2. 12.5 driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 through 6 hybrids and rest irons. 75yo with decreasing swing speed over the years to 75mph following 3 back injuries with laminectomies. Handicap of 13 on 6400 yard course and 9 handicap on par 3 course. No hope of scoring well on longer courses due to limited carry distance. Putt putt golf in my future.

  3. Driver, 3 wood, 5wood, 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid, 5 hybrid, 6 hybrid, 7 iron, all the rest irons. 75yo who has lost distance with age and gets 190 yard distance from 12.5 degree driver and who when 20 years younger got 250 yards with 9.5 degree driver. 3 back laminectomies due to non golf injuries and with current club head speed of 75 to 80 mph. No hope of playing under bogey without 3 & 5 woods and hybrids. 13 handicap on 6600 yard golf course. 4 handicap on a par 3 nine hole course.

  4. Barry Murton says:

My Severn wood is an Adams ladies shaft 21d, my 22 d is an Adam 4 hybrid.

  5. Olly W says:

I don’t have any woods in the bag apart from driver. The course I play is more tight than long so I’m generally using mid irons-wedge off the fairway. But I do like the idea of a 7 wood. If driver isn’t working I can keep it in play off the tea. Might eBay a cheap one first to see if it’s for me.

  6. I have a 4W, 7W, 5H in the bag… also put CBX2 wedges in. Game is so much easier.

  7. Doug Coull says:

7wood at 19.5* and 4 hybrid at 23* works for me

  8. Tried Ping G425 hybrid (didn’t love) complementing my TS5W (love) – now have Titleist U505 4i (love) which I couldn’t bring myself to buy at first as it ain’t pretty – but, it works, I like it now!

  9. Full set of T rail hybrid irons inc t rail 5H. Cleveland 3H and 5W

  10. BonJovi71 says:

Bha ha ha golf clubs cannot lower your handicap. The only way to lower your handicap is by improving your short game.

  11. Bob T says:

Ping 425 7wood. Very versitile club. Tried the hybrid, prefer the 7wood

  12. Soul-Taker says:

Get a chipper, even good golfers will save 6 shots a round and no one needs 4 wedges.

  13. Kelly Smith says:

I have a bag of hybrid irons (Cleveland launcher xl halo), a hybrid wood (Cleveland hywood 18 deg) and they’ve made a 10 stroke improvement in my game. I also use as straight flying ball as I can find (yellow erc soft or maxfli trifli). Makes me love golf again via success and low scores. Good vid!

  14. W. Smiley says:

I just purchased a 22* Hybrid yesterday. Smooth like butter in the range. Can’t wait to get out and play a round with it. Forgot to add that I was fitted too.

  15. Kevin Payne says:

I carry 4H 6H 5W, the hybrids are great out of semi rough, rough lies. But I have more confidence with the 5W in the fairway. The 3W is my go to back up off the tee when the driver is going poor or on really tight fairways. My longest iron is a 7 iron. 😂. Really struggle with long irons these days.

  16. If your are using either club for long par 3 tee shots or approach shots on par 5s, then the 7 wood seems like the better choice because with that greater height and steeper landing angle it will hold the green better than the hybrid. This probably holds true for both players with higher swing speeds than you, and longer carry, as well as players with slower swing speeds. Thanks for this demonstration.

  17. I think the real question here is which combination to play if you are carrying both clubs. The 4 hybrid at 22 degrees and adjustable epic sub zero 5 wood lofted up to 20 degrees is what I go with. I like the straightness and piercing, quick ball flight of the 4 hybrid and the all out smashiness of the higher lofted 5 wood that can carry up to twenty yards further. The must hit the fairway on a tight par four club being the 4 hybrid, BUT!!!! The combination of a 3 hybrid at 19 degrees and 7 wood at 22 is almost a better setup as the 3 hybrid is so similar to the four but struck well goes fifteen yards further and the 7 wood can be so versatile as a cure all for par five lay ups and a go to fairway finder as well. The low flight of the three hybrid is just so desirable in the wind. I definitely feel the versatility of one hybrid and one wood is a plus, so really just a matter of which hybrid you are most confident with as a straight shooting, wind cheating, tight hole beating weapon. For golfers on a budget I highly recommend the Callaway XR hybrids with the stock project x san diego hand crafted shaft. Awesome clubs that can be found for less than 75 bucks usually. Great videos, also love the steel fiber shafts for the irons, cant say enough about those either. I play the 70 r flex even though I carry my 7 iron 175 yards, love them. HB Turbo 7 iron at 30 degrees. Basically my whole iron set up is like a bag of hybrids, hard to hit a bad one but spin can be an issue off of tight lies. I think for players who play a lot of links style golf, the hb turbo irons are a great option as they are forgiving and can be played low and to run like a scalded cat.

  18. ryajsmit says:

18 degree 2 iron hybrid great from anywhere easy to hit pro idea adams. Great from 200 to 240 depending on conditions. Into the wind is great why force a 3 or 4 iron just a smooth hybrid.

  19. 5 wood 18*, 4 hybrid 21*, 5 hybrid 24*, 6 hybrid 27*, definitely easier to play with than lower lofted irons, then 7 iron upwards .

  20. Got 2 sets of PXG's, one high handicap set made up of all 0211's, and a mid-handicap set made up of Gen4 woods and Gen3 P irons. Both sets have driver, 3w, 5w, 7w, then the irons start at 5. I do have a 4i with a graphite shaft in each, rest of irons are steel, and I use that as a DI, but that takes me to 15 clubs, so leave that out most of the time.

  21. dave watts says:

I carry a 5 wood 19°and a 21°hybrid but now looking for a 7 wood to replace the hybrid. My late playing partner had one which was a very old MacGregor which was his go to club, then h bought a hybrid with a stiff shaft which he hit well 4 times 2 of which were in the shop! Who sells a stiff shaft to a 75 year old Ffs

  22. Owen Favro says:

What's in my bag? At 74 yrs old most of my playing partners in my senior mens club are amazed that I carry a 3 – SW set of irons and am able to strike them all fairly well [all are Wilson Staff CB with steel shafts] Now at the top end I own all Ping G410 [Driver, 3-W, 5-W, 3-H, 4-H, and a 3-XO that is strengthened to 18°] Of course with 10 irons I can only carry 3 of the top end clubs [legally] which clubs I carry depends on the course length I'm playing With all of that said I have to admit I cannot hit either Hybrid to save my bacon but I have them because sometime down the road I may be forced to put them in the bag Yardages you ask? Driver = 250, 3-W 230, 5-W 210, 3-XO 204, 3-I 192 with about 12 yd gaps down to SW = 84, 3-H < 200, 4-H < 185 these are total yards Last caveat my bag has 15 club slots so I usually carry 15 clubs What club gets the honor? Well I'm trying to figure out those Hybrids so I alternate between the 3-XO or one of the Hybrids only time will tell – PS I bought the Wilson CB irons after watching your review of them [as well as others] keep up the great content

  23. I used to love hitting my 3 iron. As years have past as they do I had to make a change in my bag to in an attempt to continue playing some sort of quality golf. With an 80 mph driver swing speed I have gone to a 12 degree driver and put hybrids in the bag 3 thru 7 with cavity back irons to the 56 degree Vokey wedge. The vokey will stay because I am comfortable with being able to manipulate the face and bounce for a wide range of full and mid ranged shots. I will be putting into the bag the Cleveland chipper because wishing to take more advantage of my bump and run opportunities from a scoring standpoint. Worth noting is that I have put a Seemore putter into the mix. I am not a bad putter but if a more consistent set up and ball position can add improved face control then perhaps an improvement will follow. My game needs more control from the second shots, chips and putts of 6 feet or less.

  24. A comparison off the mats doesn't tell the whole story. What about out of the rough, or a wet or soft fairway? The 7 wood looks to be the obvious choice, but does the hybrid perform that much better out of questionable lies that it equals the playing field??

  25. I am sick and tired of people saying this club or that club is going to improve your golf. If you don't hit the ball correctly, it either slices or hooks. Your golf swing is the only way to hit the ball correctly. A golf club will not do that. Like many, I have purchased expensive clubs that the manufacturer says will stop your slice and do this or that for your game. Total and utter rubbish. If these clubs could do that, everyone would be a single handicap player. I would hazard a guess and say 70% of golfers slice the ball and no matter what club you have in your hand, you will still slice the ball. It seems you have gone down the route of pushing clubs for manufacturers. Get some 30 handicap golfers hitting your so-called clubs and see what they do. It appears an average golfer is an 8 handicap? I doubt that. You must be either on the driving range or playing a round of golf virtually every day, unlike most people who may play once a week if they are lucky. The price of golf is expensive, especially out here in Spain. My nearest course is 50 minutes away! A round of golf at Valle del Este is €81 for 18 holes with a buggy.

  26. Driver 3 w 5w 7w 6h 7iron down . No long irons pointless as they are harder to control.

  27. KL says:

7 wood would really help a lot of weekenders but it should be offset or draw weighted or both. Also great for getting out of the woods and chipping. I recommend the Cobra Offset fairways.

  28. Paul Brown says:

I have obviously a driver, 3 wood which are all cobra's, I only have 3 iron's in my bag, do you really need 14 clubs to be honest all I have is a cobra baffler 5 hybrid, 6 hybrids, 8 hybrid, 9 iron, PW, SW, and the MAZEL Golf Chipper Club / Wedge 45° I prefer to use this instead of the PW to be honest more consistent. I think that it's just easier to keep it simple and keep to what you're comfortable with.

  29. I bought a 7w and 5h over winter to make the game easier in tough conditions. They feel like cheat codes now and they're not leaving my bag. I'll probably add a 4h to the mix as I see no point in going back to a 4i. I think I'd expect the 7w to launch higher because, loft for loft, the CG is further back than with the hybrid.

  30. A lot of pro tour players are using 7 woods now rather than hybrids. And the logic for that is that the ball flight on a 7 wood is higher than a hybrid, and it lands softer on what are rather rapid modern greens nowadays. Makes a lot of sense. Hybrids are slightly better than a 7 wood out of the rough (sometimes), but otherwise, I think that the 7 wood is a better choice. The one club that I think is better than those is the Callaway UW – the best of both worlds. A think a lot of average golfers might benefit from it.

  31. Vinnie Patel says:

I have a 3 and 5 woods and just recently added a 3 hybrid all are the Taylormade stealth model.

  32. Andy Bannon says:

I had a fitting for driver & woods yesterday & have now ordered a hybrid based on that experience. The pro started me off hitting 4 irons – average of 205 yards. Played around with various shafts & angles & in the end I opted for 9 degree driver – 275 yards. 3 wood – 245 yards. The 19 degree hybrid was going too far so the pro altered the loft on the g425 to 21.5 degrees. I hit this 220 yards which was a perfect gapping from 4 iron. If I had more of a budget I would definitely look into a 23 degree or so hybrid & ditch the 4 iron completely as the hybrid was so much easier to hit well. I did also try a 7 wood but found that I hit it too high, would be difficult to use in windy conditions.

  33. 5w 7w 4, 5, 6h 7iron on

  34. pjas09 says:

Have a wood setup of Driver – Radspeed XD – 10.5*, 3W – Speedzone Big Tour – 13.5*, 4W – Taylormade Sim Max D – 16* & 7W – Callaway Mavrik Max – 21* … Then 5i to PW, AW, GW & SW … Cannot hit hybrids at all but love the 7 Wood (took forever to find one in Australia in my price range) & it gaps perfectly with my Mavrik Standard irons.

  35. Hi, I have both a 7 wood and a 3H. I use the 7 wood where there are lush (read rough) courses where I need the extra help of the 7 wood head and for longer second shots. This is mainly parkland courses. Then the 3H comes into its own on the heather and heath and the links courses. It flies a little lower as you found and rolls out a bit more. Both are great for chipping out of collars of rough around greens. Great video 👍

  36. Grant Hodges says:

Andy I carry a Ping G410 7 wood 22 degrees and a Callaway Apex 3 Hybrid 19 degrees. Admittedly many will say they are too much alike but the 7 wood is my 190-200 metre club which flies high and lands softly whereas the 3 hybrid replaces my 4 iron and runs out to 180-190 metres and is great for knocking the ball out of the rough and keeps the ball low played off the back foot. I threw the 3 wood out and now play a Mizuno ST 190 /
5 wood 18 degrees for the 200 to 220 metre shots. I’m still amazed when people say what are you hitting there? when I play the hybrid. For me it’s a no brainer – one of the most versatile clubs ever.👍🏻🇦🇺

  37. Driver, 3,5, 7 and hybrid now. Makes life easier

  38. Chris Lewis says:

Andy, have you ever reviewed a Callaway Heavenwood? If there was ever a club an average handicapper should have that for me is it. I have a Rogue Heavenwood. 20 degree loft, 42.75" shaft. It launches and flies so well. I play that along with a 25 degree hybrid and I'm soon to get a 28 degree hybrid. These would sometimes be thought of as 'old man' clubs. But I play stiff shafts and hit the ball good distances but find them so much easier to hit than longer irons.

  39. Joe Noblitt says:

    I’m using a 5 wood & I’ve got the loft set at 16°. After that I’ve got 21°, 25°, 29° hybrids then go to 7 iron
