30 Replies to “What's With All The Halo/Orbit Plastic?”

  1. I have to disagree on the Halo plastic. I'm also a mold minimalist, but these halo discs are just too overstable. The halo Mako3 just has no glide in comparison with star or champion. While most of my discs are in opaque plastic (like star or lux), if I need a more overstable disc to layer in then I turn to the clear plastics (champion or neo) so that I can still keep my glide while achieving that fade.

The lucid ice orbit emac truth turns right for me. The regular lucid emac truth never does. 🤷🏽‍♂️

  3. Will Grogan says:

I think the look they've achieved with the white rim orbit ice stuff is just so clean. I really like how the plastic performs on all metrics too! They also seem to be flying pretty true to the mold (like the bear still has the turn it was designed to have). Most of them seem to have really smooth domes that look as they should, not caved in or extra tall, just a smooth extension from the curvature of the rim.

  4. Kevin Kostka says:

It's interesting to hear you say the Ice Orbit stuff is more overstable. I've thrown the EMac and Escape, and both are on the understable side of those molds.

  5. Tyler Keown says:

Grabbed a Lucid Ice Escape after falling in love with a Supreme one the last few months – it's exactly what I wanted out of it, pretty similar but slightly more torque resistant so I can get after it without worry of it flipping hard. Trilogy is killing it lately imo.

  6. A.J. says:

I think the stability comes from the different thermal propeties of the different color plastics. Leading to the parting line raising when they cool. But i had a halo Hawkeye that was very flippy put of box.

  7. Bill Herrera says:

Everyone wants to be MVP now. Simon called it when he signed up. Now rims are insane colors by multiple manufacturers.

  8. While I'm a fan of the idea & the results, I'm not a fan of the price point.

  9. Hidden Leaf says:

What I don’t understand is Innova hardcore fans say there is no difference between Star and Halo Star yet why are all Halo discs more overstable than any other plastic counterpart and why does Innova say Halo is their most durable plastic?

  10. Orbit Sapphire looks like easy distance.. Is it lightweight?

  11. Seth Heasley says:

The other companies saw that Axiom discs looked awesome and tried to make their discs look similar. It's just good business. Throw Gyro!

  12. Eric Walter says:

Mold minimalist unite! Under stable discs in over stable plastic are money! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

  13. Andrew says:

Having a Lucid Ice Escape has beem essential in my bag! It complements my Lucid Air and Supreme versions.

  14. Always appreciate the genuine feel of your videos, some of the easiest to watch DG content .. thanks David appreciate you a ton !

  15. My favorite plastic is the meta plastics used for discmania’s zen 2, midnight prowl and iron samurai

  16. James Cairn says:

Love your content man! Keep it up!

  17. derp derpin says:

The Orbit discs have a grip similar to Lat 64s Royal Grand and it's fantastic finally getting a feel like that for other Trilogy molds. Closest thing we've gotten yet.

  18. I always assumed they were using 2 different plastics in order to achieve the MVP over-mold effect with heavier rims?

  19. It just looks sooooo 🔥🔥🔥🔥

  20. Mike Newton says:

I actually bag a horizon doom bird, halo dynasty and a orbit grace. The orbit grace is actually my flippy one

  21. Hey I’ve played a tournament at the course he’s at n this video (it’s in Kansas city)

  22. truce11 says:

Dem Cicadas didn't give a rip about what you had to say about those Raptor Eye Sockibomb Slammers

  23. Halo is a plastic type and orbit is a color scheme completely different

  24. The new orbit ice looks cool and all but the whole orbit/horizon/halo plastic feels a bit forced and over marketed now. On a side note david if you read this comment i am making a 9 disc bag souly out of recommendations off youtube content creators. Can you add a disc to my bag? Currently the bag looks like stalker, instinct, hex, zone, pig.

  25. Jacob Porter says:

The best Halo Plastic is just Axiom

  26. Josh Jackson says:

I haven't had a Halo plastic disc yet in 3 years of playing. Too expensive for me. Not windy here either. I have had cosmic Neutron which is my favorite most durable plastic. Big z is my second most durable. I hit my chain link fence and skip off my road all the time. I will buy a Halo KRAIT and kinda want a Halo mamba

  27. South Toe says:

I am so, so curious of the Bear.
I'm a Jenn Allen Teebird guy but those flight numbers are so enticing

  28. Alex Geibe says:

I recently picked up an Ice Orbit River and it's awesome. A River with all the same glide as a regular Lucid, but flies straight when thrown flat brand new, is surprisingly torque resistant, and has a long pushing fade. I stopped bagging Rivers because they would get too touchy for my liking over too little time. The Orbit will beat in and develop turn much slower, which is exactly the situation you spoke of in the video.

  29. Definitely agree on the Orbit VIP Ice Bear. For one, they're really pretty, especially in that blue. I love the First Run VIP Ice Bears because they were flatter and beefier than the stock runs are, and the new Orbit ones fly pretty much the same as the First Runs do. Right now, I have three Bears in my bag, and between the Bear and the Crave, I don't really need much else.

  30. Jpaz says:

These are really cool! Can't wait to get some into my bag!
