Do This When You Struggle with Driver

Dive into the heart of golf with PGA teaching professional Todd Kolb, in this episode of our ‘On the Course’ series. In this video, Todd navigates the 18th hole, a short par-four, from an unfamiliar tee box that presents a unique challenge. Alongside Todd, experience a real-time and authentic representation of the game, complete with its triumphs and trials.

Todd’s approach is dynamic and thoughtful, taking on the hole with a combination of his driver and hybrid, emphasizing not just power but the importance of control and accuracy. Struggling a bit with his driver, he imparts the technique of teeing it down and choking down for those times when you need to ensure the ball lands on the fairway.

Experience the green light shot with Todd as he stands in the middle of the fairway, choosing his 48-degree wedge for a controlled, three-quarter speed swing. Feel the tension and the excitement as he measures his 27-30 feet putt, aiming for an even par.

Interlaced with his play, Todd shares lessons on the importance of hitting the ball the right distance, not just the line, and course management tips that help navigate hazards and position your shots optimally.

Todd’s mission is not just to share his grip, swing or putting techniques, but to help you understand the game in its entirety. For golfers at all stages of their journey, Todd Kolb’s ‘On the Course’ series offers not just golf lessons but insights into playing better golf and enjoying this wonderful game. This is golf beyond the driving range, where the grass is green, and every hole is a new challenge.

Follow along as Todd promises an under-par round next time, and don’t forget to subscribe and leave a comment on your thoughts. This is more than just a game; it’s a community.

I’m from Dawson creek. British Columbia Canada. Which video covers wrist hinge and position at top of swing?

  7. Always learning from your contributions Todd! I really like your suggestion of choking down on a driver and teeing the ball down a little for control. That's how I play golf! I'm at an age where I no longer try to "muscle" the ball. It's helped me to avoid injuries over the 68 years I've been playing. BTW, that's a very nice looking golf course. Is it in South Dakota?

  12. In another recent video you mentioned choking down on the driver to find a fairway so I tried it on a hole that usually results in my having to punch out of trees on my second shot. Lo and behold, I found the fairway! Thanks from Oklahoma City.

😀Disagree with 53 being old Todd. 58 years young here in Liverpool.

  14. I actually had 2 inches cut from my driver shaft, now 43.5 inches, results, more control and consistent, and little or no sacrifice in distance, don't get in to much trouble now

  15. Ocala Fl thank you for showing practical approach to playing golf just showing clips of things is good but don't show the reality of the game.
